In the market for an A4. 98-02 or so 1.8t 5 speed. What issues should I watch for? After my last run in with a 98 Jetta I will be more carefull this time around when it comes to German. So far I know not to buy one from a used car lot as all they do is polish a turd and throw it out there.

And if anyone knows someone selling a decent one pm me info.

I think the main thing to look out for are the control arm bushings and make sure the timing belt has been replaced or plan on replacing if it hasn't been done.

I would try to find the best A4 you can with maintenance records. Another similar option is a B5 Passat 1.8t 5speed, unless you are after quattro also?

 

Quattro isn't really a must but I have heard good things about it. I'd really like to find a 5spd Wagon but have a feeling they are few and far between in decent condition.
