Like I said my lifters are bad in the VR, so what are my options? I have money saved to do them but I rather not if I can aviod it seeing as that's for something else.

So guys, whats the worst that can happen? Theyve been making noise for quite sometime but I didint know what it was but seeing as I want to go to SOWO next year I dont want to risk it.

I think he was more concerned with what happens if they arent replaced. Honestly, I doubt that anything catastrophic will happen but its severely annoying. If you want a temp fix add some lucas oil stabilizer. Other than that just bite the bullet and replace them; If it was me Id make it worth my time and install cams while I was in there.

I already have techtonics 268's with GIAC software, but thatnks guys. I was just worried my vr would go boom. I will probaby replace them but if it can wait a couple of months I'll put it off.

Lifters are between the cam and the valve, valve spring, spring retainer. Spring and retainer control the valves opening and closing. How are you going to float a valve due to the lifter not pressurizing/pumping up? Valve float is due to the spring not being able to control the valve's opening and closing motion, commonly happens when a motor is rev'd beyond its valvetrain's ability. If theyre ticking, they arent filling up all the way and if anything arent opening the valve enough. Not good for performance but its also not going to kill anything other than a bit of power. Also, he knows his lifters are bad..... he shouldnt be spinning the motor into the rpm area where valve float could occur.

Of course thats assuming they are ticking/not filling completely or properly. Never stated what they were truely doing. If the lifters stayed too full (rarely the case), they would keep the valve open. Resulting in loss of compression, poor combustion and possibly a valve touching a piston.

I have never heard of a ticking or sticky lifter causing valve float. Id like to see proof.

My experience with VR's has shown me that wrist pins are a weak point. So much that over-revving creates a faint knock comparable to lifter noise, but with less frequency. It may not be the answer you need, but consider it as well.

Thanks for the info guys, Ive heard that switching to a thicker oil MIGHT help. I use 10w-30 Royal purple, can anyone confirm?
