Tech Question
how exactly do you pull out the headlight switch on the mk3 models...i saw how rich did it on the mk4 at the tampa auto convention and i cant get that to work on mine. should i just ignore the switch and kill them at the relay box?

okay i just killed my DRLs without cutting any wires or anything just had to pull a relay. took about 10 minutes total and didnt affect anything else. i used the instructions provided at http://www.venommotorsports.com/howto/runninglights.htm:
1. You will have to access your fuse box by removing the protective cover from the bottom of your dashboard. It is secured by a couple of Phillips screws and a plastic clip (removing it should be fairly obvious.)
2. Once the cover is removed you will have to unclip your fuse block. There is a white locking clip that you must pulled forward (toward yourself) to release the fuse block from its bracket. There is a clip on both the right and left side of the fuse block... they literally swing out of the way once released.
3. Push the fuse block up and then slide it towards you to remove it from its bracket.
4. Locate relay #94 or #173 in location #15... the relay number will vary depending on the year of your car. Use the small screwdriver to pry the relay out.
5. You done! Just reverse the steps to put the fuse block back into the dashboard.
in my mk3 gti it was fuse #173 hard to miss it was near the top of the fuse block about 1 by 1 in size. it wasnt held in by any clips or anything you just have to pull it out slow and put a flat head screwdriver around each side to help a little.

I heard pulling the relay prevents some of the other idiot lights from coming on. So that isnt really a good idea. All you need to do is pull down the fuse panel and look behind where #173 was installed. Just disconnect the yellow wire. No need for electrical tape or pulling relays. No need to pull the headlight switch either.

I think Kyle does have a point though. You always want what you dont have.
