Default clutch

so the clutch is goin out on my 1997 jetta glx.....i was wondering what a nice upgrade for that would be....im just lookin for some opinions.....thanks....

as of now...yes.....but im plannin on a few things like exhaust, chip, intake, cams...etc....i just got it not to long ago

You should be fine with a stock replacement if you aren't going turbo. I used to beat the shit out of my old 1997 GTI and the clutch held up fine under a lot of hard driving, autocrossing and drag racing.

I say look into an upgrade so it can take more power for future mods

I say your wrong. If he isn't going to do forced induction down the road, the stock clutch will handle all the NA power you can get out of a 12V VR6.

I personally am not a fan. Some people love them. You have to rev the car up and ride the clutch too much in everyday driving (when starting from a stop) in my opinion. Less weight on the flywheel equals less inertia to get the car moving from a stop. If you go lighter, I wouldn't go any lighter than 12 pounds or so. I would try to find someone with one and drive their car and see how it feels to you.
