well us vr6 guys have a reputation to up-hold..we dont like to be seen with anyone that has a 1.8t...

im just kiddin..no i dont care what you drive..95% of my friends have honda's..

oh and btw i have yet to be beat by a 1.8t i know i havent raced and really fast ones..but i have raced a couple that claim 250hp and i have a stock VR with a 75 shot..and will you look at the 24v vr6 gti on EIP's website..i think thats more than your 340hp or w/e you said..and that 12v has still not been beat by a 1.8t..and wtf are you talking about 20k? for 10k i could put my car into the 10's.. if not less..

no one cares about your drag queens running 9s in the quarter with a motor thats been around for over 10 years. the dyno above that has a crappy power band is not becuase of the motor, but because of the huge turbo the car is running. this is an prime example of what is called turbo lag. if you want reliable, get a honda. if you want cheap hp, get a 1.8t. if you have money, get the 24v vr6. if your really broke, get a mkII or III vr6 and slap on a nice size t3/4 or a gt series turbo and call it a day.

How is it a dyno queen if it runs 10s all day and is daily driven

Boy you VR6 guys are really getting upset over this.

I never attacked the VR6 and believe it's a very capable engine. Unlike you guys I don't believe it's the end all in VW performance. In that case neither is the 1.8t, but it's not impotent either. All I ask is show me a real world (i.e. not shop owned with 1000's of hours and dollars in it) VR6 that outdoes every 1.8t out there. If you can't do that then concede that they are very both capable of similar if not equal power. I never said one is better than the other.

I'll concede the VR6 has a nice powerband and would love to build a 24vSC MKIII Cabby, but I don't have the disposable income for that right now. I need a few more years for that.

MrNiceGuy: Are you honestly going to invest $10K in just your drivetrain?

I'm not. If I was going that route I would have bought a more capable car (i.e. S4, Supra, etc...) Most people buy a VW because it's a well rounded car that looks good, and is capable of good power. You can mod it it inside and out with a variety of customizations. It also affords a certain bit of luxury and safety that Hondas don't have. As for reliability, I've owned three and the only problem I ever had was 2 bad MAFs.

I guess my sarcasm is once again lost over the internet.

Show me a video of that car running ten's all day long, I doubt that power band and stock VW gearing would allow for tens.

Brian Kirchberger's jetta was daily driven, it was not owned by a shop, he would turn up the boost to 35 psi for drag racing, how is that a drag queen? After he got tired of drag racing he detuned it and made it back into a full time street car.

I feel both motors have plenty of room for modding, I just personally love VR6's, deal with it.

And everyone should remember Aircooled VW's are the fastest VW's, so to hell with us watercooled guys.

mk3 jetta best "race car" vw has ever made, and the best motor to do anything to is a 12v vr6. turbo cars runnin 9.5's(brian k) and puttin down over 700whp (chris green) and all motor vr6's runnin 11.93 (anthony d) with only 200whp. you dont see any 24v doing that or any 1.8t comming close to a 9.5 1/4 mile. oh and all the real vw race cars are pretty much mk3 chasis.

I agree with you on the aircooled engines. I've seen some damn fast bugs.
