Get a MK3 VW if any. The Mk4's are plagued with problems. I work with them everyday, trust me i know and see it all.
My vote would be for a MK3 GTI VR6.

I like VWs, but "reliability" isn't the first word that comes to mind when I think of them.

great .... i just bought a 05 IV GTI 1.8t .. i got ohh... 300 miles on it...hot
i bought it cuzz my other car is the racer money pit. time to do the "search" for my new gifts of recalls,gremlins and quirks...
lil late but screw it ...hothatch anywayzz

Hmmm... So you service VWs? What are the odds that MKIVs are the most common cars you work on?

Let's see, they are the newest cars. I doubt there are any MKIIIs left under warranty.

And what a shock, people bring their broken cars in to get fixed.
Next time my car is running great, I'll be sure to stop by so you can fix one that doesn't have a problem.

When was the last time you had to fix a car that didn't have a problem?

Congrats! You'll enjoy your new car.
You may have to deal with recalls like window regulators or coil packs.

It's too bad you didn't buy one of those big domestics that burst into flames when the fuel systems explode.

Darn German engineering.
