Default white 96 jetta, black wheels, black grill...who owns it?

i just ran into a pretty quick 96 jetta with a black grill on i275 right before the st pete clearwater airport exit...and it appeared to be stock besides black 17inch rims.

we kinda both got on it to about 160mph...was wondering if it had a vr6 swap...1.8t swap or something else...because it was certainly faster than my roommates stock 96 jetta.

seems like someone should know who it was...

here's a link to the war story...

like i said i had my speedometer BURIED and it goes to 150. i also have slightly larger tires/wheels compared to stock which would mean i was doing slightly more than what the speedometer read.

my jetta would do 160 with an intake, it was a 98 glx vr6 all stock cept for the intake, those cars are fast right from the factory, i got busted for doing 130mph in a 70 on the interstate and i was just on my way home coming down from 155, and believe me he prolly had more rpm to go, cuz the power band on that car is hellacious, if you were doing 160 he prolly had about a grand more rpm to go before he hit the redline, and then you still have some power.

Your intake removed the speed limiter? Cause they are limited to 133 from the factory. And, no he didn't have a grand more to go, they are gear limited to 160mph, 7000 rpm in 5th is right about 160mph.

Somewhere around there, 3.67 final as compared to the 3.38 final in Jetta/GTI O2A transmissions.
