well...i'm on the highway heading north to best buy in tampa...

and up ahead i see this stock looking jetta weave past 2 cars and then take off...so i figured i'd catch up with this thing to see what was going on. looked to be a 96 jetta with a stock looking exhaust and ugly 17inch wheels...so i'm thinking i'll just waste some ricer and that'll be it.

well...i kinda passed him at 70 or so and then let off...as traffic opened up...and then he got on it and i followed him as he went into the 3rd lane right before the st pete/clearwater airport exit...and thats when he got on it hard and i did...and the next thing i know he's 2 cars ahead. i stayed in it until at least 150mph (speedo was buried and it goes up to 150) and he was on it to what seemed like 155+ or so.

all i can say is whoever owns that car must have some work done to it...and i'd be interested to see if its got a 1.8t swap or maybe a vr6 + nitrous swap or something cause my car isn't that slow...

 

What color was the jetta?

Jettas came stock with a VR6 from 94-current, so it wouldn't be a VR6 swap. Exactly how fast is your car, then I might be able to tell you what is done to that jetta. My GTI (VR6) only has a chip and intake and will do about 150, so it wouldn't take much for that jetta to do 155, just depends on how fast he got there, cause it runs out of gear at 160.

 

i can tell you the jetta had more than just a vr6 and a chip.

my car is in the 110mph range pretty easily and easily does 150+ mph. now he did pass me at 80 or 90mph while i was doing 70 and i proceeded to play catch-up...but this was definitely not a car with less than 250whp...as my car is in the 270whp range and weighs less than 2250lbs.

i did have a 180lb passenger...but that isn't going to make that much of a difference...

 

Could have had a charger maybe?? Otherwise a bunch of motor work.

 

i don't know...i'm definitely interested because i am sure the vr6 wasn't stock. someone in the vw/audi forum has to know of this car...its just too fast to not have heard about...etc...

 

i have rode in vr6's than can do well over 150 , with jsut chip i/h/e. as a matter of fact that is about the only place a vw is fast is on the top end range , especially the automatics from the 125-165 mph range.
