So gearing doesn't help? Power is just a portion of the formula that makes a car fast. I think swapping transmissions is not something most off the showroom floor buyers are even considering.

 

in the RWD world we dont have to swap trannys to change gearing

my car came from the factory with 3.27s
alot of GT owers swap to 373s or 410s
i put 456s in my car

Nope, just a car that has a major (non bolt-on) modification done to it. But, as you could imagine, it was the first example that came to my mind.

I will say that a gearing change is minor compared to a transmission swap. Especially a c4. Off the top of my head besides the gearing, there is the advantage of less shifting, longer time in power band. Also the faster shifts of a drag racing specific transmission will help (unless he put in a factory c4 in it). Better/harder launches due to a drag racing specific transmission.

Also we can swap out gearing in the fwd world too.

 

so when i do a t5 swap i no longer have a bolt on car because i dont have a stock transmission?
