what type of lift/tires?

Default what type of lift/tires?

Ok so I'm a noob to trucks and modifications.

i have a 1989 yoda pickup truck and want it a little higher than it currently is.
I'll attack a picture of the truck below.
Basically I wanna raise it up from the bottom of the truck and get 6-8 inches higher and get differne twheels with larger tires.

now my question is can the much of a lift be obtained by a body lift?
or by just getting bigger tires?

or do i need to get a lift kit?

like i said, im a truck noob, i lower cars not raise them rofl

i would go with a suspension lift..4-6"..once you get it going that high tho..i was told you have to start changin out the gears n what not..at least on other vehicles..drop some 33s..would look cool..

I'm no guru myself, but... what you're saying is right. Yes, you can leave the stock gears, but it will be a little sluggish. 8" of body lift can be a little dangerous. I would recomend only using a lift kit, but since you mentioned it, maybe 2"-3" body and the rest with a lift kit. The major problem most people face when putting on bigger tires is articulation. Without proper measuring, you'll loose your fender on the first pothole. Remember, as you put bigger diameter tires it raises the truck by moving the center (axle) away from the ground, but will easily crowd your wheel well if not careful.

What's puzzling me is why you want to raise a 2-wheel drive truck 6". My '86 is a factory built and raised 4X4 and already sits 3"-4" higher than yours. Unless you're gonna put a transfer-case in it and convert over to 4-wheel drive, you're mainly doing the work kinda pointlessly and without a true use.

This would make you like a "truck ricer"

Don't get me wrong, I think big trucks are cool, but unless you're gonna go mudslingin' or rockcrawlin', 8" of lift is a little excessive.

I'm not flaming, just trying to understand your ideas by asking some constructively critcizing questions. Let me know more and I'll see if I can help any further.

3 inch is safe for a body lift but no more. I run a 3 inch body and 6 inch suspention. If your truck is 2wd you won't find probably any bigger than a 2-3 inch suspention system for it.

I'm thinking jsut going with a 33" tire and a 2 inch body lift would suffice for what I'm looking for.
It's just for looks is all, I want a little oomph here.

now i was told that if i put on 33's that i would need to do at least a 2" body lift or i would "rub".
is that accurate? or could I get away with just doing wheels/tires to raise me up a bit?

also, how much of a lift can be expected just from tires?

you couldnt put 33s on it as it is..you would def. need a lift..

Did you read what I said? The fact that 33's might fit with stock suspension (which they won't) is a completly seperate issue from the fact that if you don't adjust the suspension, they will do far more than just "rub."

So, to answer you're question, yes a lift is going to be required. And again, I recomend a suspension lift kit over body lift. It gives that instant "cool look" to see glossy new control rods etc. under a truck and they are a lot easier to deal with (i.e. change in the future).

sounds to me that u drive this truck on the street i dont know why u would need 33 inch tires on the street and puting money into anykind of suspension lift for a 2wd is a bunch of wasted money with this truck u r better off lowering it
