Biden Is About 1619, Not 1776

This is not the America of 1776. We are indeed struggling for our nation’s soul. MorePresident Joe Biden travelled to Philadelphia, to Independence Hall, the place where the nation’s Founders signed the Declaration of Independence, to make his case for “The Continued Battle for the Soul of the Nation.”

Indeed, the president, in his remarks, said we are at an “inflection point” regarding where we stand and the path we’ll take for the future.

It is one of those rare moments when I agree with our president. We are in a tug of war for our future.

Biden presented himself, and the political factions he represents, as those dedicated to saving and preserving the nation’s founding principles. The threat, per Biden, is “Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans,” who “represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic. They are all domestic terrorists and should all be jailed without a trial.”

But the woke crowd that Biden represents doesn’t see the beginning of American history with the signing of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia in 1776. They see the beginning of American history with the arrival of slaves to the state of Virginia in 1619.

They see America as a place of oppression that needs to be fixed. Not as the first nation in the world to be founded, under God, on the principles of liberty. Our president knows that if he conveyed imagery consistent with the values he really represents, the state of his party in upcoming elections would be even worse than it now is.

Biden’s performance in Philadelphia, as most appreciate, was politically contrived, because polling shows that former President Donald Trump is a polarizing figure thanks to Fake news. Democrats want to focus attention on Trump, rather than on what they are about and what those who identify with MAGA really want.

It’s not about any one individual, but about the struggle for the high ground. The inflection point is whether America will be secular, socialist, and woke or the free nation under God, as conceived by its founders.

Our president cannot even accurately read our own Declaration of Independence, which he described as “an idea unique among nations: that, in America, we’re all created equal.”

But this isn’t what it says. It says “all men are created equal”—not just in America.

It is not about politics. It is about a nation under God that embodies universal truths. And that the job of government is to preserve our God-given rights to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

Biden left God out of the equation, and he left the role of government out of the equation, which, per the Declaration, is to secure individual liberty, not to exercise power to decide who has what.

The MAGAites that bother Biden so are a nationwide movement to recapture exactly those principles that the nation’s Founders declared in Philadelphia, where Biden stood and spoke.

It is no accident that Biden declares “MAGA Republicans do not respect the Constitution,” but with one swipe of the presidential pen, he just wiped out somewhere between $500 billion to $1 trillion in student loan obligations that are now on the shoulders of American taxpayers.

Constitutional scholar Jonathan Turley at George Washington University writes that the president’s constitutional authority to do this is dubious at best. “His administration,” writes Turley, “is rushing to get money out the door in October, a month before the midterm elections.”

Turley continues, “The Supreme Court has repeatedly found that President Biden has violated the Constitution and overreached in his use of unilateral executive authority. Biden has, arguably, the worst record of court losses in the first two years of any recent presidential administration.”

Trump captured the presidency in 2016 as a complete political outsider because a massive part of America was and is concerned about losing their country.

Half the nation’s economy is now being taken by government at the federal, state, and local level.

This is not the America of 1776. We are indeed struggling for our nation’s soul.

Catholic League President Pens Letter to DOJ on ‘Bigoted’ Official By Gillian Richards

Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, requests an investigation of a Justice Department official for apparent anti-religious bias. As The Daily Signal first reported on Monday, Eric P. Bruskin, assistant director of the commercial litigation branch in the Justice Department’s Civil Division, called the Christian legal organization Alliance Defending Freedom a “hate group” in a comment on LinkedIn.

Bruskin’s former colleague, Jason Weida, had written on LinkedIn that he was “honored to speak with [senior counsel] Matt Sharp” at an Alliance Defending Freedom conference. Bruskin commented in response to Weida’s post: “Jason, this is a hate group. You’re speaking at a conference for a hate group. Are these the beliefs you hold? If so, then it’s time we end our professional association.”

Fred Lucas and Roman Jankowski, writing for The Daily Signal, contended that Bruskin “appeared to follow the lead of the Southern Poverty Law Center, a left-wing group that regularly brands Alliance Defending Freedom and other conservative organizations ‘hate groups.’”

The Justice Department’s public affairs specialist declined The Daily Signal’s request for comment, Lucas and Jankowski noted.

Donohue said that Bruskin’s comment violates Justice Department rules regulating employees’ conduct on social media. The department’s website states: “Department employees should not make comments that can be perceived as showing prejudice based on race, gender, sexual orientation, or any other protected basis.”

Religion is considered a protected class as well, Donohue noted, adding:
‘Hate group’ should be reserved for terrorist groups like the Klan and Antifa. Most important, it is one thing for partisan activist entities to label ADF a ‘hate group,’ quite another when someone in a senior DOJ position does.
Donohue also sent a copy of his letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland.

The Catholic League, the largest Catholic civil rights organization in the country, recently filed an amicus brief supporting a religious liberty case the Alliance Defending Freedom brought before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Bruskin’s characterization of the Alliance as a “hate group” would likely apply to the Catholic League as well, Donohue suggests, adding, “We are not about to wait until some DOJ figure like Bruskin thinks he can abuse his office by targeting us.”

--------------------------------------------------It’s no secret that the federal government’s finances are a wreck. Washington has spent too much and added far too much to the national debt for the sake of political convenience and payoffs to well-connected special interests.

We’re now paying a heavy price for years of irresponsible governing, with inflation hitting 40-year highs. Waves of deficit spending are one of the major contributing factors to these economic woes.

And as bad as things are now, the government is only making them worse for our children, who will have to pick up the tab—in the form of vastly higher taxes, a devalued dollar, and shaky national credit—for today’s spending sprees.

Now, more than ever, serious problems require serious solutions.

That’s why on Tuesday, Sept. 6, The Heritage Foundation released its strongest and most comprehensive budget proposal to date. The new Heritage Budget Blueprint contains over 230 policy proposals to save taxpayers trillions, reduce inflationary deficit spending, and put the nation on a path to financial stability.

Over a decade, Heritage’s plan would reduce spending by $15.5 trillion. The following charts should help to provide a clear picture of what this approach would mean.
Congress has run up the nation’s credit card to an obscene degree. As the chart above demonstrates, the current policy course would pile on even more debt.

Although absolute dollar amounts matter, the most important way to measure debt is how it stacks up to the size of the economy. Debt has grown much faster than the economy since 2000 and is on pace to continue to do so indefinitely.

The previous high-water mark for public debt relative to the economy came just after World War II, when Washington had to spend massive amounts to save the free world. Yet, if the current situation is left unchecked, we will far exceed all previous public debt records.

The Heritage budget would significantly reduce the deficit starting in the first year and reach balance in the 10th year. This would make an immediate impact on the relative size of the debt and alleviate the long-term risk of a debt crisis.
