Hello Ace Cafe Fans & Friends,



Over the past few weeks, we have joined with fellow restaurant industry operators racing to contain the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak. We adapted our operations in line with evolving federal, state and local orders and upheld safety measures recommended by the CDC, WHO and other agencies.



Unfortunately, in spite of all of our efforts, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily close Ace Cafe Orlando in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19.



The safety and well-being of our team members, guests, clients and partners has, and always will, be our top priority at Ace Cafe Orlando.



We are looking forward to the time when we reopen our doors and can entertain the Central Florida community once again. Thank you for your continued support. We wish you and yours safety and good health.

Rock n’ roll music is inextricably tied to the creation and spread of motorcycle culture in the United Kingdom. Specifically, the epicenters were London, and Watford. In the '50s and '60s, young Brits spent their time hanging out at cafés, mostly because they were one of the only places they could go to listen to American Rock 'N roll. The most historically significant cafés were the Busy Bee Café in Watford and The Ace Cafe in London. The daily agenda for the young men of the day was: drink coffee and hang out at The Bee until their welcome wore thin, then dash off to the Ace to do the same. The rock music-loving lads were known by a variety of names, like "Rockers" or "Ton-Up Boys." They dressed like Marlon Brando in 1953’s The Wild One, leather jackets and side-burns, channeling the American greaser scene pushing their hair up into slick pompadours. Naturally, these young people needed some wheels to jet around town.


Young Brits needed a vehicle that was equally equipped for upward mobility. A vehicle that could meet – and enhance – their fast-paced lifestyle. The 1950s saw motorcycles decrease in price and become accessible to working class people. They were perfect for the rough lads of Watford and London, who wanted no-frills, fast-paced vehicles that could allow them to carve up the town. The bikes they rode in those days were lean, with a single racing seat and low handlebars. They were the proto-café racers, and in general, defined the category. Other definitive features include: racing gas tanks (usually sheer aluminum or black-painted), cone megaphone mufflers, swept-back exhaust pipes, TT100 Dunlop tires and rear-set foot pegs. On the backs of these bikes, young men took to the streets of Britain. Naturally, they began using their modest Royal Enfield 650 twins to race one another. There is a tale depicting the first use of the term “café racer.” A trucker at a transport café remarked: “You’re not real racers, ..you’re just café racers!” The rest was history.

The café racers were known sometimes as the leather boys, but only an exclusive group, a subculture within a subculture, could call themselves the “Ton-Up Boys.” It was called “doing the ton,” or “tonning up,” and it referred to doing 100 mph on the back of a bike. Hitting that mythic speed on a motorcycle was proof of your mettle- and for most of them, who rode rather meager motored bikes, extremely difficult. As a result of this badassery hanging over their heads, the young café racers began chopping up their bikes and bolstering them, seeking to making them lighter and more powerful. The ambitions of these young men to upgrade their motorcycles portended the future of the café racer as the ultimate canvas for motorcycle customization. The Ton Up Boys had no qualms with stripping their bikes down to its skeletal frame, removing anything that would add unnecessary weight, and doing whatever it took, in order to top the century mark. The history and spirit of the cafe racer and ton-up boys lives on today!

The ACE CAFE LONDON REUNION is independently acclaimed as the "World´s Coolest Motorcycle Event!" The Reunion takes place at Ace Cafe London premises, and on Madeira Drive, Brighton from September 2nd – 4th.

Celebrating the history and heritage of the Ace 25 years after it had closed in 1969, the first Ace Cafe Reunion was held at the legendary North London premises in 1994. This year it is not only the 28th annual Ace Cafe Reunion and the 20th anniversary of the cafe having fully re-opened in 2001, it is also 26 years since the first Ace Cafe Reunion held on the famous and ever popular seafront at Brighton in 1996!
This DVD is a great ride through the first Ace Cafe Reunion, held in September 1994. The event reinforced the cultural importance of the Ace Cafe. This film is a record of the 1994 Ace Cafe Reunion, when 12,000 people and 7,000 bikes gathered to participate in this memorable occasion. It has been widely acclaimed and includes interviews with the original patrons and subsequent generations of motorcylists. Set to a rock n` roll soundtrack.....it`s a piece of history!
