    A testimonial:
I am new to motorsports and I have been active in taking classes and participating in SCCA events. The FIRM has been the absolute best for me in terms of learning to be a better and more competitive driver.

If you want details, read on: I have attended two days of rally driving training, and I have become a much better driver because of it. The instructor (Bryn) was great, and taught me not only how to drive, but about how to set up my rally and track car. We also discussed the philosophy of being a driver and how to think like one.

Previously I could only learn these things on forums online, and even my previous 3 day racing class did not teach me any of this. Learning these "extras" helped me better understand what the heck I was doing to my rallycross car. I always started off on the rallycross course, but then Bryn would take me to the tarmac track or even to the stage rally course to hone skills that were deficient for me. That was very refreshing, since it means that even though I only signed up for a "rally" class they were willing to use all of their facilities to make me a more competent driver.

They are located right by an airfield near US 301/Keystone Heights. You have to get past a gate and a rough road to enter the facility grounds. The staff and manager are very friendly and even accommodated me for a day of Saturday class because of my work schedule. They are responsive with responding to e-mails and phone calls, and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

I drove both the Ford Focus and the Fiesta. I did not request the AWD cars because my rallycross car is FWD. They have both available and I saw some Subarus, Evos, and NA Miatas in their lot. I believe they also have Lamborghinis for track days, but I'm sure they were in a covered garage somewhere.

The whole time I was here I received 1:1 instruction and that has been key for me. Previously, I attended a 3 day racing school (which shall remain unnamed), but they did not give me 1:1 feedback and I did not end up learning very much despite spending several thousand dollars. I would say that the FIRM gives you the best for your money and time invested. If you are in the area and want to learn to be a better competitive driver, I highly suggest that you take a look at the FIRM.

We hoped that everyone is safe after Hurricane Irma. We will be open this open this Saturday! Thankfully, we did not have any damages on the track and we will run the track day as usual. The Jeep trails did get a lot of water so part of the trails will be marked off for your safety. We are asking you to take extra precautions when driving through the trails. Make sure you bring your recovery gear in case you get stuck!

Back in the day, Formula Ford was the place for aspiring champions to launch their careers. RDDC members such as Jimmy Vasser, Michael Andretti and Danny Sullivan all got their starts in FF. Today there is a new FIA-sanctioned class designed for young karting drivers to show their mettle in open-wheel cars - and begin their climb up the racing ladder. It’s Formula 4, and it’s designed to be the first step to F1. In our latest video, we take a look at Formula 4 USA and hear from some young lions who are hoping that this is their launching pad toward a successful racing career. http://SAFEisFAST.com is a free Online Driver Development program for aspiring drivers providing video tutorials as well as direct advice from today's top racers and industry experts.

Meeke wins Rally Spain, Ogier gains in title race

    Sunday, 08 October 2017

    FIA

Kris Meeke claimed his second victory of the World Rally Championship season at Rally Spain, the Citroen driver dominating the day to claim the win by 28 seconds. Sebastien Ogier took an important step toward a fifth world title by finishing second, and third position by teammate Ott Tanak moves the Estonians ahead of the only other championship contender, Thierry Neuville. The Belgian suffered a grim weekend and ended up retiring today, a potentially terminal blow to his hopes of his first title.

"It's been an exceptional weekend," said Meeke. "It's not about how many times you get knocked down, but it's about how many times you get back up. And I've had to do that a few times in my career, let me tell you. We always knew this car was terrific on asphalt. This result goes to show that. It gives us all in the team a huge confidence boost."
With two rounds remaining in Britain and Australia, the titles are now heading toward their climax. With additional points in the Power Stage, Ogier takes a 37-point lead over Tanak into Wales Rally GB with Neuville just one point further behind the Estonian. In the manufacturers' championship, second and third for M-Sport gives the British team a significant boost and it needs to claim just four points to take the win on home soil.
Today's route took in six stages and 74.26 competitive kilometers, all without service. Meeke drove faultlessly throughout, winning five of the six tests to take his fifth world rally victory during a difficult season for the team. Once Neuville had retired after clipping a rock and damaging the suspension and steering, Ogier focused on getting to the finish without risk. Tanak, who has been running the last two asphalt days with a gravel specification gearbox, didn't really have the tools to push harder but was delighted to overhaul Neuville in the standings, the Estonian going into the event claiming that he was never going to give up while he had a mathematical chance of winning.
Behind the leading trio, Juho Hanninen has had a great rally and was the only Toyota driver to finish after teammate Esapekka Lappi retired today when he hit a barrier. Mads Ostberg also enjoyed his first outing in the 2017 WRC car on asphalt. Sixth position for Stephane Lefebvre ensured Citroen scooped the most championship points in Spain, and Elfyn Evans, in seventh, will be pleased to move back to gravel after a difficult hot tarmac event on his DMACK tires.
Rally 2 returnees Dani Sordo and Andreas Mikkelsen completed the day; Sordo was on fine form and finished 15th overall with Mikkelsen three places behind.
Teemu Suninen claimed the FIA WRC 2 Championship win by over 30 seconds from Jan Kopecky. The Finn had a great opening day on gravel where he was able to establish his advantage, despite the Czech Skoda driver taking all the stage wins on Saturday and Sunday's paved stages. Nil Solans' win in the FIA Junior WRC Championship category provisionally secures him the title, adding this to his already won WRC 3 crown.
The FIA World Rally Championship now heads back into the forests for Wales Rally GB on Oct. 26-29.

Kris Meeke has powered into the lead of RallyRACC Catalunya - Rally Spain as a switch to paved roads has shuffled the leaderboard.

The Briton took the advantage after the opening stage of the day and now heads Ott Tanak and Sebastien Ogier as the crews arrived back in Salou for the mid-leg service. Andreas Mikkelsen, leading last night, has dropped down the order, the Norwegian needing more sealed surface experience in his first outing in the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC.
After an extended service last night, where the teams changed the cars from gravel to asphalt specification, today's route takes in two loops of three stages before concluding with a quick-fire run around the short Salou seafront stage. Meeke targeted the opener as the stage to make a difference and the Citroen driver was fastest, catapulting him from third to first with a 9.1 second advantage in this single stage.
"The car feels phenomenal!" he declared. Second- and sixth-fastest times in the following stages saw the Briton take a 13.5 second lead into the repeated runs this afternoon.
Unhappy with the feeling in the first stage, Tanak then made changes to the setup of the Fiesta and was able to move from fourth to second as many drivers around him suffered with understeer. The Estonian is however in the thick of a fight with Ogier, the teammates separated by just three-tenths of a second. The reigning world champion was just not on the pace this morning and had anticipated being faster over the fast and flowing roads.
Dani Sordo is now the lead Hyundai driver and hot on Ogier's heels, his new teammate Mikkelsen also only a handful of seconds adrift in fifth. The Norwegian dropped from first to third in the opening stage with understeer – something all three i20s have been affected by – and then fell further back to sixth before climbing a position as he continues his intense learning curve in the car.
Juho Hanninen, in sixth, has had a great morning with two stage wins in the Toyota Yaris WRC, moving himself from an overnight eighth. Mads Ostberg is down to seventh, an off in the opening stage not helping his challenge, but Thierry Neuville is the one to have fared the worst. The Belgian struggled with massive understeer in the opening stage and then started the third one three minutes late, having lost hydraulic pressure in the previous stage. He has dropped to eighth, seriously denting his championship challenge, and is nearly a minute adrift of Meeke's leading pace. Esapekka Lappi has had a good morning and the Finn sits ahead of Stéphane Lefebvre who rounds off the top 10.
Teemu Suninen continues to be the runaway leader in the FIA WRC 2 Championship, although after taking five of yesterday's six stage wins he is now conceding those fastest times to asphalt ace Jan Kopecky, who has moved up to second. The FIA Junior WRC Championship also looks to be provisionally sealed by Nil Solans. The Spaniard is second in the category behind Nicolas Ciamin but has taken enough stage wins to add this accolade to his FIA WRC 3 Championship title.
