Default New Scion/FT86/FR-S

What do you guys think of Toyota teaming up with Subaru? i know this car is long overdue, probably will be outdated by its release or not real competitor to new sports like the Genesis or Optima. I have a few questions:

-Why not do an AWD
-Why so weak in the HP department(not confirmed 180-190)
-Will STI parts be compatible?
-Next big tuner?

i just feel like Toyota doesnt make sports cars anymore, they made the Supra and said that was good, now lets make a bunch of granny-mobiles. this car will be affordable at 20-25k.
so hopefully its fast.

When I first saw it on the auto-show circuit I felt it had allot of promise, particularly with Suburu co-branding it as they will undoubtedly give it a proper engine and transmission but as things draw out I'm honestly starting to have a few doubts. If nothing else, at least they are getting back in the business of real sports cars.

this car would be perfect if the following things happen, its gets an sti 2.5l turbo boxer, they keep the rwd option and sell it for 20k. just my opinion

What makes me angry here, is Toyota is full of crap. Why use a Subaru engine when they could use an already very capable 3sgte? Toyota does not make sports cars anymore. This car is probably going to have a motor that's worthless like all of their other cars made after 2001. The body styling is not bad, but you know the interior is going to be made from flimsy plastic and leather look vinyl. I don't see why they even bother anymore. I believe Toyota has really lost their way.

I agree with you, Mark. If anything Toyota should be trying to develop either a new S series motor (fifth gen 3SGTE? 6SFTE?[I don't think any of their current motors are belt driven anymore]) or even a new series to replace the S series motor. If Toyota is trying to bring back a classic, why are they relying on Subaru technology? Toyota's engineering department is one of the most highly invested operations in the world. You'd think they could handle the FR-S on their own. -__-

this is exactly why i won't buy one. if i wanted a subaru id buy a fucking subaru. i think its complete crap. how could they say its a successor to the ae86 with out a proper toyota motor? you hit the nail on the head my friend. and cheese hit it spot on too. they could desighn a new all aluminum 2. something Liter 4-5 valve ITB"ed G headed monster. so just because they didn't i say fuck em. this car competely pisses me off to the point of diss owning toyota. i guess us true toyotaphile's will have to stick to driving 80's and 90's toyota's considering they are the best cars ever concieved by man.

and u know... lets be practical... a turbo setup isnt cost effective... but why not use the 2az? torqey and cheap to produce... it would probably cost them less than the boxer crap... and would be great for us toyota guys

Look we know econo boxes make money. The fact is they are going to build this new car. If they werent i wouldnt care, but they are so it pisses me off they're taking the easy way out. Not only do they have the 2az, but a plethera of motor's from the japanese market as well.

Does it look good? Yes.
Will it be great to drive? Yes.
Am i glad they are making sports cars again? Yes.
Is it a toyota? No.
Will i ever buy one? Fuck no.
If i ever did i'd have to buy the subi version. And laugh at all the moron's that bought the toyota version and thinks it's a modern day 86. The toyota version will be bought exclusively by poser's.
