New Scion/FT86/FR-S
Look we know econo boxes make money. The fact is they are going to build this new car. If they werent i wouldnt care, but they are so it pisses me off they're taking the easy way out. Not only do they have the 2az, but a plethera of motor's from the japanese market as well.
Does it look good? Yes.
Will it be great to drive? Yes.
Am i glad they are making sports cars again? Yes.
Is it a toyota? No.
Will i ever buy one? Fuck no.
If i ever did i'd have to buy the subi version. And laugh at all the moron's that bought the toyota version and thinks it's a modern day 86. The toyota version will be bought exclusively by poser's.

IF I ever bought one, it would be used, not that pee yelllow one, and swap out the engine with a more appropriate toyota engine with ITBS
This is just Toyota's new management trying to bring back a little fire to their line. Don't think it's going to work though. The only reason they are using the boxer motor is so they can get the low sloping lines they want in the front end. The boxer motor allows for that low hood slope. As for teaming up with Subaru, if they already have a viable motor there is no reason to reinvent/retool a factory to produce one. This car is designed to compete directly with cars like the Genesis but I think it is a little to late.
I'll keep driving my 15 yo Toyota and like it.

If they can get a low slopping hood line on the lfa with a v10 in the front im sure they could figure something out with this car as well. Why did they spend ten years and countless $$ building the lfa? Im sure they could have desighned a new motor for this car on 1/8th the budget.

I have the chief engineer that designed the car and his friend on my facebook, and from my understanding in reading their posts they're using the boxer motor because of the low center of gravity coupled with the long history Subaru had in developing the motor in WRC. Plus, it's been said that the plethora of parts for the boxer motor also factored into this. Did all of that satisfy me? Not really, but I still want one for a DD, and eventually my 1J or something else true Toyota (3s) will go under the hood.
Above all of this, we have the corporate portion, and that is to say that Toyota essentially owns F.H.I. (Fuji Heavy Industries), the parent company of Subaru.
I am however surprised that no one else named the part that annoyed me the most; the fact that it's being branded a Scion in the U.S. That made it unbearable for a while, until I just figured on re-badging it if I procure one.

The Scion badge annoyed me at first, but if you think about it Scion is Toyota's cheap, tuner, fun car brand. If Scion was around in the '80s, I guarantee the AE86 would have been badged as such. And even though I don't think the FT86 is any real contender to the AE86 legacy, I can understand their reasoning in badging it a Scion as it does fit the bill.
I understand all of this. Fact is its all bullshit. Marketing has taken over the world. Look at how many people buy lexus and have no idea they are toyota's. There shouldnt have to be a lexus or scion, it should all just be toyota.
And as far as the boxer motor goes.... They are great motor's and there's tons of reasons to use them. But one reason over all to not use them. Its not toyota.
Is there anyway you could pm me the guys facebook pages please. Id love to read what they have to say.
