Default 7m any good?

I know that they have some headgasket issues and what not, but besides that they are pretty solid correct? I'm thinking about picking up a supra, but i need to have it run on the 7m for a least 6 months before i can shut it down and start a swap.

as long as the motor is built wit hthe correct clearances, and you keep it full of oil and tune properly, your fine. stock block and crank can hold over 1000hp to the wheels. duane has dynoed at 1015hp and mibrum is likely in the 1200rwhp rang on his 7m.

the problem with 7m's is the owners. they try to boost to the moon without proper mods and tuning and blow the hg. and then drive with ater in the oil and bitch when they get rod knock. any supra you get, id rebuild the engine yourself and make sure everything is CLEAN!!!!!!!!! and the clearances are all to the proper SPECS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. dont just slap it together and go. get the micrometer and dial bor gauges out and check EVERYTHING!!!!!. also, dont bother with piggy backs, just save a lil more and go megasquirt with a wideband!

Little known fact is the factory heads were not actually torqued down enough, and Toyota, knowing about this never corrected the issue or issued a recall. Torquing the head bolts down to 75ft.lb. or so remedies most of the HG issues.

btw, this "little known fact" has been widely known for ~20 years. it was well doccumented on the old geopages, yahoo pages, sonic, etc.... and is still well doccumented on every supra forum and then some. guess you dont read about toyotas much.

supra forums and supra mania will become your friend. They both have all the info you will need on any motor you would use in a MKIII

7M is a greatly underrated motor. If you take care of her, she will take care of you; and then some.

it will for sure, as long as its prepped correctly. But that goes for all motors. Also the 7M, has more low end & top end torque then any JZ series motor.
