Mr2 question
i got a question for the people that know about the MR2..... are the MR2s reilable? and are they hard to work one because they have the engine in the back and are they really expensive to fix? i am looking to get one someone wants to buy my supra and i wanna stay with toyota and is it that hard to find a turbo MR2 like everyone says they are? do they come with twin turbo? i dont know just give me some info on MR2s
Honestly Brian people look for months and sometimes years to find a decent mr2 turbo. If someone has one that hasnt been ragged and is in good shape they are goin to charge a but load for. Plus insurance is a bit much for us since it is a two seater t-top turbo. They come with a single turbo.

there was a rare twin turbo version i dont know how it got like that but there was a few not sure if factory or not.
i would let al or mark answer this they both have mr2 turboes.
from my experiences helping al work on his car its not that bad if u know what you are doing. it is truly amazing that the engineers managed to get room behind the seats and still have a nice sized engine bay. alot bigger in there than it looks. but yet still small. definately kinda hard to work on when everything is put together like if u are trying to mess with the turbo assembly/downpipe area while still on car.
toyota also has the most expensive parts departments out of all import car companies and most domestic ones too. only parts departments that have more expensive parts are gonna be your exotics. toyota is right up there with bmw/benz when it comes to parts prices. but there are many sites that have parts wholesale.
and austin is right hard to find a decent one i looked but insurance reasons and rarity/price played a part. u can buy an n/a and just put a turbo motor in and that will equal about the price of finding a really good conditioned turbo model.

indeed. mark did that to his white one. and now he is in 12s i believe (high12s).
i rmember seeing a few mr2s with hi mileage n/a motors (5s-fe has potential too if u have $$$) going for between $4500 to $6000. add $2500 for a 3s-gte (or more for a 2nd gen or 3rd gen which come with like 225hp and 245hp i think but harder to come by) and you can still come out with a turbo mr2 for under $10000 (including a few motor upgrades)...most turbo models go around 10-12k when i was looking and most were stock or hi mileage with a few mods.
hope ur insurance guy doesnt read here

a turbo model in good condition is really hard to find. I looked for about 3 months until I found the MR2 I wanted. It had to be shipped from the panhandle. If you can get a 93 or newer they made a few improvements that you will appreciate once you have them. If you find a 93 turbo with LSD the price will be a little more but it will be well worth it. A good 93 turbo with 50k-60k miles will run you about 11500-13000. If you are gonna buy one buy one of these or get a 91n/a and swap the whole rear out for a 93+ turbo motor and suspension. You can prolly find a decent 91 n/a for about 5k a 93+ jdm clip for $3000 and a few extra goodies be running high 12s for bout 10k. If you are planning on spending serious money the MR2 can be a mid 11 second street car with not much problems you just need the right combo for mods. You will enjoy any moment that you have driving the car and it will be worth whatever pennie you drop into it. If you are real lucky you will come across a 95 Turbo which there is less than 250 of them nationwide.
thanks guys for all the help i started to look already! i am gonna wait for the right one but even ever you guys see me on another name and its called MR2...something (Mr2Brian etc....) then you know i got it but thanks for the info and the peice of information i liked the most is that it can be a 11sec. street driven car
sounds cool but thanks a lot and if you guys have any friends that are selling one or a friend that has a friend plz tell me i am serious about getting one i have always liked the way they looked and the idea of having the engine in the rear but thanks a lot catch you guys later

Mr2s are fun but not for a person with no motor experience at all. Most work you really want to do yourself because of teh rarity of the cars it makes someone who knows about working on the car even more rare. Then on top that when they know there good they charge out the ass!!!!! Be patient is my advise... Dont be afraid to travel the country to get your 2 either. I know because my turbo was in NC when I got it.Sometiems you get lucky though my prestine 88 n/a was 5 houses down.
If you ever need any help when/if you get one hit me up I have pretty good mr2 knowledge considering I have done everything there is to do to that damn 3sgte... Mechanically anyway. not performance though I have gotten pretty close to that too...
