You could very well destroy a W58 on a stock na 2J. But, if this is your daily driver it wont be so bad, as long as you baby it. Fuck, ive heard of stock 7m's grenading one of these drifting.

Also, 1500 for the transmission is ridiculous, ive seen them go for around the $700 range, and if you lurk the salvage yard for long enough you can probably find one. Or even ebay.

Ebay that shit der, you can go out and get one right now for $1000 sure, but who does that!?
You also said in your first post that they go for $1500, I think you need to do some research.

driftmotion.com has every single thing you need. Even the whole clutch pedal set

The clutch pedal is annoying if you get a w58 and don't get an sc pedal. I used a MKIII supra pedal for mine but had to do some modification to it so it wasn't hitting the footrest on the left. I eventually got around to taking it out. If you're going to build the car your tranny choice should work backwards- desired hp=what tranny you use. I regret my w58- I have to drop it back out now or it'll blow the first time I miss a shift. w58- low hp, r154 or v160 getrag 6 speed- much higher hp (yes, r154 needs 1j bellhousing and I think you have to mod the shifter but you can find the tranny's cheap on ebay), getrag is expensive, and you can always go with a th400 or boostlogics built auto (which I believe is a Turbo 400). If you are low on funds I suggest skipping the swap altogether until you have more cash and can go with something better than the w58.

At least thats a legitimate response... barely at that.

soarer_owner I would say you would have to be the most ill informed person to be giving this person advice. You start saying the tranny is 1500, then 1000, then when asked the difference, nothing. "about 500." We're trying to help this guy and miss-information isnt helping, or you poor use of the english language.
