Hey
A friend of mine is looking for a car to buy and he is highly interested in the 2nd generation MR2 Turbos (1991-1995?).

Well what do you Toyota gurus know about this generation turbo version MR2? Good idea? Bad idea? Ive heard some MR2 enthusiest say that it is a better idea to get a NA MR2 and just throw an aftermarket turbo kit on it. Are the stock MR2 turbos decently quik? He is looking for the cheapest MR2 turbo he can find so he is looking for a 91-92. Is there a particular year that would be better to get?

Any advice would be apprietiated.

Thanks
Mike.

A healthy stock 91 Turbo will run 0-60 in 5.9 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 14.7. They are fairly quick. If he is looking to get the cheapest way out he should be looking at a 91 Turbo with about 100k miles. If he looks hard enough he could most likely find one for as low as $6000. He has to keep in mind that the turbo is prolly going bad the rotors prolly will need to be replaced and some parts may need to be replaced. The MR2 is not the cheapest car to own it takes maticulous care for it to run like a champ. Its a great car for tuners cause you get a lot of performance for you buck. They handle super sweet also.

He should not try to turbo the n/a. It is not the best route. It would be a much better idea to get one with the turbo already saves you a lot of hassle in the long run of things. I own an n/a myself trust me on this one. The turbo model comes with bigger breaks and a lot of other things that just make it better. If he wants an n/a he should get no older than a 93 regardless of price.

My best advice would to be never to buy an MR2 from Brandon Motorsports as long as you keep that in mind youll be alright..
