Default any 3sgte specialists around ??

hello, i dont post here much, but i am currently building a 3sgte w/ a td06 kit for my MR2. so the motor is almost completely together, but after reading all the write-ups and watching all the videos of how to set timing, it still confuses me. This is my first time building a motor, and i dont want to attempt setting timing if i dont know anything about it. so if any "3sgte specialists" would like to swing by and do this for me, i would really appreciate it. of course i will pay in the form of cash and beer . let me know,

navin

there is a mark on the bottom timing gear that you can line up without the cover or harmonic balancer on(line it up)now take your 14 mm wrench and use it to put the exhaust cam in time(there is a bend in the timing cover baffle for each gear)...there must be no slack in the belt on the right side you may have to "grab" the belt with the exhaust cam gear and pull it tight then let it slip til it's in time...now with the right cam gear in time, and maybe a clothes pin or a little spring clamp holding the belt to the gear time the intake cam in without moving the other one(no slack in belt across the top of the two gears)...clamp it or whatever as before then install the tensioner with the granade pin in it.release the granade pin...spin the motor clockwise to the next top dead center #1 and check to see if your timing marks are still on the cams and if they are you're good....if not repeat and make sure you take up the slack in the belt this time...if you are not sure you can wedge something in there to hold the tensioner over and rock the motor timimg back and forth with a 14 mm wrench and a 19mm wrench with the bottom pulley bolt in(to check alignment) cuz the tensioner can be a bitch to reload

the adjustable cam gears, when set on zero, are the same as the stock cam gears...

Are you installing stock cams? I hope so. If not, you'll want to set your cams to your cam card spec, take it to the dyno and fine tune the adjustable gears.
