Arrow Wife's Matrix, check engine light and a/c??

So the wife's Matrix is at around 50,000 miles. We've never had any issues with the car. The check engine light came on two days ago and now the a/c is blowing hot. Is there any relation,,, I've never had a car throw a code for the a/c system (that I've known about anyway). This is our first Toyota.
Thanks guys.

to be honest, the matrix really isn't even a Toyota. Its shares parts and motors with the Pontiac Vibe which is a POS. very very odd for a Yota to have a check engine at 50k imo.

Its still a Toyota engine. Check engine could be nothing at all, I see more EVAP emissions codes than anything else out of any New Toyota. Are you sure its not the Maintenance required light? It could go off at 50k because they are timed lights not malfunction indicator lights. At least get the code checked at autozone or something if you dont have the $$$ for the dealer to check it.

What are you talking about all those cars are built on the Toyota Corolla platform. Using the Corollas engine, trans, interior i mean everything except some of the sheet metal. Not just that but the Matrix is only built in Canada while the Vibe and Corolla(not all) are built a NUMMI which is a Toyota and GM joint venture plant which also produces the Tacoma. The Vibe isnt a POS either its just a cheaper less equipped Matrix. They are all the same CAR. And i dont see anyone saying Corollas are POS's.

Also there are several reasons your ac could blow not cold. Relay could be bad(is the light blinking). You could have had a rock hit your condensor and put a whole in it(seen it a few times). As for the check engine light there are over 200 different things that can turn that light on from a loose gas cap to a pin hole leak in an EVAP line to a bad transmission. All in all just take the car to a Toyota dealer. They will fix it.

Well turns out it was the gas cap and the code had to be cleared out by Autozone. Thanks to indeed for mentioning Autozone,, rep'd.
vbmenu_register("postmenu_5107709", true); The a/c is still out so I'll take it in to get checked out.

nice, i hear about this randomly, its an odd thing to cause all those issues. Let me know if you need a code read next time so you dont have to spend money at autozone (unless it was free)
