I haven't heard back from the guy with the s4, so I'm now considering an is300 modified by Peter Farrel Supercars in Maryland, putting down ~500 on pump gas. I wouldn't buy it if I hadda take it back to Maryland for service and repairs, though--are there any shops around here with good, trustworthy mechanics and reasonable prices?

driven concepts and xat racing are both well known and reliable sources to fix things if your car needs fixed. located near the tampa area too i believe.

 

The only shop around town with experience with the 2J at the moment is XAT and Turbo Toys, I would avoid the others.

I do freelance work on 2J cars on the weekends now, I have over 6 years experience with the 2JZ.

 

What cars did XAT build with 2J's?

 

depending on what you need done you can also bring it to the dealership.
I work for lexus and have plenty of time with the 2jz motors. We also have alot of people who have modified IS 300's, 350's supras's and SC's that come here to get work done. It just depends on what you want. We dont have the capabilty of tunning. But you would have a Lexus cerified tech working on your car.

 

DC and XAT are prob some of your best bets. i know xat does everything from lex, toyo, 240's. they have a good reputation. I also had a buddy who just had some work done at DC and he is very happy with hwo it turned out

 

I would steer away from any feelancers, if something was to happen, you are not covered by law due to people performing side work. My honest suggestion is to visit all your local shops and take your pick. What's ideal is the fact that all your major shops are all located in the same area, so it would take you an afternoon to go visit, take a look at the shop, a look at their overall work, and speak to the people that work there. Everyone has their own opinions, but you should make your final decision yourself from what your perceptions are after your visits.
