it looks like nissan used the rear half of the 240z as a mock-up of this car with the front panels sporting the style of the C2.

in actuality its the otherway around...this was a precursor to the Z

when goertz came back to nissan to design the Z he re-used the ass end of this concept coupled with a reworked front end from the datsun 1500/1600/2000 fairlady

MkIII had hood struts, full size spare tire, TEMS, M heritage from the 2000GT (4v bored and stroked 2000GT engine), damn good looks, supermonitor, sold like crazy, was extremely successful, is very cheap now and easy to find but not common on the streets, has some serious potential (not 2JZ potential, but nonetheless 100HP crank from intake and exhaust), comfortable, dependable (only car I havent had to have towed) etc.

MkIV had rod for the hood, donut for spare, still good looks, didnt sell as well (though production was far far less...there were more sold in 89 than all MkIV years 93-9, though ultimately a 2JZ

Trust me, I LOOOOOVE the MK3, but I also know it's far from the best Toyota ever.

Tercel takes my vote!! JK
I actually like the 1969 Corona 2 door. If there was one around I'd probably purchase one.

Although I posted my claim in the "best Toyota of all time" thread, I'm not 100% certain that I think the MkIII is. Regardless, time has not been kind to the MkIII, and as such, the features I had referred to were applicable from 87-92.

I dunno if they are broken on that many...you're talking about the percentage of MkIII owners that are cheapasses as well!

I cant say personally as I have not driven a car nor ridden in one with it, but keep in mind the LF-A concept DOES include it!

Wrong...how many other cars spell out the exact engine codes when a CEL comes on? Other than that, its just a flashy blue LED clock

No kidding

You've been driving/around the wrong ones then. With basic maintenance, they are as reliable as any other Toyota. They break for the same reasons that DSMs do: their owners dont put money and work towards what matters.

The full size spare weighs like 48 lbs, so yeah I can definitely see the weight savings, but its still convenient to have a full spare. Not that I drove my car with it anyways

Eh...yes, but usually no more than 8k-10k. Regardless that is a big difference for two cars of the same name

Perhaps I'll feel the same way when I finally get this 95 that I've been following for 3-4 years
