ok, the reason he went 4a instead of 3s is cause of the motor his car came with stock which was prolly the 4afe. if he wanted to do the 3s he would have to change subframes. if his car had the 3sfe or the 5sfe he could just bolt up the 3sgte.

90-93 celica's:
gt-s,gt,gt convertible all came with either the 3sfe or the 5sfe.
ST, and base models came with either the 4afe or the 7afe.

rthe only thing different on the celica 4a/7a's is location of the power steering. as its on the intake side of the motor instead of the regular 4a spot of on the exhaust side.

By the way, here is a complete write up on how to do this swap:

How about buying a nicer shell with a fresh 4AFE in it as a spare engine?

Just for the record I know you can't just bolt right in a 3s in a st celica. You can surely make 2 new mounts for the motor. I think it would be more worth while with a 3s but thats just me. Alot faster and more room for power too..20v is alot better then the 4afe so carry on...

You made a good choice by going with the 20v, and you will be very happy with the swap. I would ditch the factory ECU and AFM, and definately go with Megasquirt n' spark.

The new generic trigger wheel code is awsome. It allows MS to use the factory distributor inputs and fire the original ignitor and coil. We just finished a paseo running a turbo 20v with a GZE 8.0:1 bottom end. The engine made 218 whp at 1.0 bar. MS is really close to being a inexpensive drop-in replacement for stock computers.

They also have written code for the mixing of Map and TPS inputs. I found this to dramatically smooth the off idle to partial throttle transitions for the 20v, which allows the driveablity to amost parallel the factory ecu.

STOP! Don't use the EDIS and wheel! It will throw your rotating mass off balance. It will only slow down the revs and make power drop off up top. I've seen it happen.

Just last week we did a turbo silvertop running with stock dizzy and igniter. It works so well!

If you want I can help you out with it. That thing ran frickin great! Send me a PM.
