today we advanced the timing a little to see if it would help the car and surely enough the car idled and revved like a champ, but it took a shit when i went for a test drive. after pushing the car back into my driveway we took the cap off and the copper wiring from the distributor was wrapped around the rotor. so if anybody has a distributor for an 85 gts send me a pm.

thanks,
sergio

it depends with the valve set up in a 16 valve with bad seals it tends to just burn oil on start up and heavy down shifting they whould have to be almost compleatly gone to soak plugs and wouldnt cause a major power loss , I seen a guy forget to put valve seals on one whole cylinder and it didnt lose any power just smoked and stuff on start up mostly and when he would take his foot out of it.

DO the compression test it will tell you alot.

I agree, I was just giving a general idea towards his way. I say it has a few low cylinders but we shall see.

well today jeff came over w/ a distributor to see if we could get my car running and surely enough it didnt start. then jeff noticed that the cam gears and crank werent set on the right timing (they were off a tooth or 2), so we set the cam gears and the crank to 0 degrees and the car still wouldnt start. we checked the fuel/spark and eveything checked out ok...there is no reason why the car shouldnt be starting if its getting spark/fuel and the timing is set exactly the same way it was in jeffs corrola. anyways im burnt out on the subject and i have no idea what is wrong.

sergio

btw...i still havnt been able to check the compression, but the car should start since it was running yesterday before the distributor took a shit...unless if the head gasket blew or something.

Heres whats up

Crank is at TDC (mark lined up)
Cams are at TDC (marks lined up and mark in oil cap)
Belt is Tight
Distributor is set to Base timing

New plugs, wires, Cap, Rotor, Dizzy
Car gets spark and fuel but WONT fire up, but will turn over

The tricky part is if i move the Distributor 2-3 teeth clockwise i can get the car to start and drive BUT its missing really bad and has no power at all. very boggy. I need some help asap.

just so you know i posted the same problem with my 4ag about a month ago

ninja999 and aphxero (hachi guru) came over and spent about 4-5 hours trying to figure the shit out

i even got to the point of investigating all harnesses to see if there was a ground out - turned out i did have some fried wired behind the dash but even that wasnt the problem because i replaced the fried wires but still nothing

i swapped ecu's nada
did everything youve stated nada
gas pore into throttle body- fired but then stalled about 2 seconds later
engine was firing, injecting, and cranking yet still nothing

i was basically at the same point you are at

you now how i fixed it
im doin an engine swap and parting out the engine for cash to fund my new engine project
(you cant sell a dead engine)

either way good luck

i never did find out what my problem was

and im guessing you wont either cause the same shit is posted all over club4ag and tehy cant figure it out ewither and end up doing an engine swap also

like i stated before

goodluck

If the motor has spark and compression, the only other thing it could be is fuel, thats common sence. If you spray carb cleaner in the throttle body and it fires then dies after you stop, you either have a bad fuel pump, injectors or some wiring with the fuel system, try that before giving up..
