Guess you dont know of drjones...I'm not sure he's right at 500rwhp, but he's pretty close and beats the crap our of his car. There are others.......you just need to search for them.

Jonezy races his car at Milan dragway quite frequently and it has not blown up yet. a well maintained and well tuned 7M can handle 450 rwhp day in and day out.

aside from the stock HG, the pistons are the weakest link, plain and simple. there are several people who have made some big power on stock short blocks, sans pistons. the short block that im having the prepwork done right now will hold 800 HP w/o a hitch. stock rods and crank. JE pistons, pins and rings. theres other things going on in there too, but the point is, itll handle more power than most people will bother shooting for.

the 7M is quite a good motor if you get past its nuances and dont shit-can it because you have a short attention span or are a big fan of band wagons. every engine has its short comings, even the 2J... right Mark?

i was the biggest fan of the 7m ever, that is until i got a ride in andy's mk3. i have to say for a bone stock 1j that thing hauled ass! and it still sounded like sex. i know why people hate the 7m; cause their dogs stock and have weakness issues until you take care of them. but once you get a good one the 7m can be a hell of a motor and still sounds better than any 1j/2j open down pipe. the 1j is alot of bang for the buck, but it seams that once you have one your stuck. the stock turbo's are a bottle neck, 7m, all you have to do is have a ct-26 made into a 60-1 for 200 bucks. what do you do for engine managment with the 1j? everything's in japan and exspensive. how much power will the stock ecu let you have?

another thing is getting parts. from working on sr20det's all the time has taught me that everyday things that break need to be replaced, where are you going to get them form? how much stuff from the 2j can you use? i'm asking all this because as soon as i sell my 240 i really want to get back into supra's. i'm going to build a mk3 for drifting cause thats what i'm into. once you get used to the weight a supra drifts just as good as anyother car. i'm going to go get a early 86.5 or 87 n/a hard top and either do a 7mgte or 1j. just tring to get opiions on what motor to use. since i already ahve 7m exsperience thats the way i'm leaning, but i really like the 1j and in a light weight mk3 it would be a blast.

see to get the power out of a 7m i would need for drifting i would have to do some fairly involved mods, but all i would have to do to the 1j would be bolt it in and raise the boost alittle to like 14psi or soo. will the stock turbo's live at that psi? all shit i need to know before i make up my mind.

Bill currently I'm working on a 1j swap, and from my experiences.......I just rather of changed the 7m headgasket. I sure hope it will be worth it when I actually have a running car. The exaust wheels are ceramic..thats why you cannot turn the boost up anymore than 14psi. I'm just going to play with the twins for a few weeks to make sure the cars running right , then I'm just going to put a single on it and try to make some decent power.
