Pressure Testing(ASK Mastro & TR.com)
I think I might have very slight leak with my intecooler/bov/hoses and I'm having a heck of time tracking it down. I'm seeing varied boost(+/- 3psi) in the same gear/load/rpms.
It was suggested on NASIOC to rig up something like this:

Another question I have is if there is an available part to replace the fragile BOV gasket that is stuck on the OE IC? Let me know as I might start with replacing that as I slightly damaged mine which might be causing the slight leak.

Basically you make some sort of adapter with an air nipple that fits tight (with a clamp) over the intake of the turbo, then pump in air from your standard air compressor, being careful not to overboost over say 15psi!
If there's a leak you'll find it real quick. It's amazing where an IC system can leak, vaccum hoses, couplers, endtanks, flanges, etc...
Here's a pic of an adapter for an Audi S4 to give you a general idea. I have a similar one for my dsm that fits the rex turbo.

you can always buy a new gasket from Mastro, they are only like 5 bucks.
That idea looks like it would work, just be sure not to pump to much air in, like they said. I can get you the parts you would need cheap (not that they would cost alot anyway), but I can have them by tonight.

hey there,
This is more of a question than an answer, but here goes. Doesn't the boost depend on how much you push the throttle in? Also doesn't it depend on how well you are driving upto that point? I was also wondering, if your boost goes down 3 psi that is a lot more than a little leak, I mean there is a big difference between 15 and 18 psi...Anyways those are my thoughts on the subject. peace,

I've had my ECU relashed for a couple weeks now and boost seemed steady up until I installed a GFB BOV configued in 50/50 mode this weekend. I slightly damaged the gasket between the IC and the BOV but it looked to me like it would still hold just fine.
The odd thing is that sometimes I'll step on in(WOT w/ the same conditions) 4th and I get full boost(15.5psi) just like normal but try again and it will only hit 13psi or so. I don't hear any leaks and I can't detect anything with the hood up and idle or blipping the throttle. I can't say that I understand this but I picked up a new IC/BOV gasket and will start with that. Next, I'll try putting the OE BOV back on and go from there. I also have the Samco hoses and they look pretty darn tight and sealed.
Billy, I'll hit you up for those parts if this doesn't resolve it. I also had a 2nd thought that my EGT probe has been a little loose, you guys think it's possible I'm loosing some boost through the loose probe w/o hearing any funny noises?

You can try spraying some soapy water around some of the areas you think there might be a leak...if so it will start to bubble up.
I would def. replace the BOV gasket just to be safe. With a leak preturbo (egt probe) you would still see full boost, it would just take a little longer to get there and it may be unsteady.

That's a mighty good idea w/ the soapy water. I was gonna swing over Leonard's(MinGAYCobra) and borrow his compressor. I assume I'll need a pressure regulator on the compressor to be safe, right? You think a simple 12V tire pump will do the trick?
Billy, you have GFB in 50/50, right? The spring seems a bit looser compared to the OE valve. You have any problems with this cheesy little thing leaking or anything?

I don't think a little leak would do that. I think it's either the way he is triving, the way he installed his bov, or the way he got his computer rehashed...like always though I'm probably wrong. Um about the tire thing...if your car is off I don't see why you can't run upto 20-25psi of air pressure in there. And since the pressure is only gonna be comin out from the leak a tire pump should do it, I think. Anyways...peace,
