Questions for 60,000 mile maintinance (Tranny and dif fluid)
ok i been searching for questions for the change. i think i wouldnt have problems doing it myself. but what fluids would i use? i heard if i get the gear oil from subaru that it only comes it a 5 gallon barrel. i dont need that much. but i dont know if that is accurate. if it is possible is it ook and safe to cross reference the fluids? i heard to use the vavloline gear oil is fine. please help.
btw how much would it cost for subaru to do the change for me?

I think its atleast 500 dollar for subaru to do it... I'm about due for my 30k tune up, but I think I'm going to do it myself. Oil change, air filter, tranny (using uncle scotty's cocktail), and maybe flush coolant. Parts should be ~$100... big difference. However you might need more things for 60k... belts, maybe brakes, etc

changing the tranny oil is super easy. Unscrew the torx bit under the tranny and drain. Screw plug back in and pour new trans fluid in via the spout on the top of the tranny. Thankfully Subie trannies aren't sidefeed which makes it very easy.
I used motul in my WRX and loved it.

Mastro has barrels of Motul and Extra-S, but Mastro will decant it into a more managable jug so you're not buying a huge drum.
I like the Uncle Scotty's Cocktail personally (1q Redline MT90, 1q GM Friction Modified Synchromesh, 2q normal 75w90), but I also don't have the same demands from my transmission as most people do.
