how do you blow an oil seal? does the oil pipe usually come off after the seal breaks?

 

There are quite a few causes of blown seals. High mileage, oil starvation, dirty oil, poor maintenance, etc.

BTW, oil seals are inside the turbo and you generally wont know you have a bad seal till you start shooting white/blueish smoke out of your exhaust and and have an oil leak coming from your turbo.

I got burned by a guy on nastycock like that. Said the turbo was great and then he started getting shady when I sent him the money and when the turbo arrived it was dirty and looked like crap. Checked for shaft play and everything was fine till I started the car up.

 

i would've punched babies.... yeah, the best way to buy a turbo a from someone local. this way you know where they live, etc..
