IMHO stay away from the 98 RS. It is plagued with issues, Front bumper looks like ass, and you never want to own a first MY subaru in the US. lol

Not very hard, most parts are bolt-on... The issue is when you go to do the L conversion you will end up spending more on parts and coversion then if you just hunkered down and bought the RS to begin with.

Unless you are looking to do an early STi (v2 for example) then just get the RS. And enjoy better suspension, trans, engine and looks.
