for that price range you can find a slightly modded 02/03 with reasonable mileage. I like the bugeye better than the 04/05. As for the tranny. As long as you dont beat on it, it's going to last. I did the 2.5 swap and I'm putting down stage 2+ STi numbers and havent had 1 problem with the tranny...because I dont drive like an animal.

BUY THE BUGEYE...YOU WONT REGRET IT.

agreed... if you drive it normal, the WRX tranny will love you long time.
my bugeye is on stock clutch and tranny, stock 2.0 block and heads, and meth/water injection w/over 80,000 miles.. Can you believe I've had it almost 7 years now (purchased new May 2001) w/no real issues. Many CEL's but that's normal! It's a great car for the DIY'er.. if you have no wrench skills, it can get expensive. But there is SO MUCH documentation and how-to's on NASIOC and Scooby-Mods even a caveman could do it
