Is the swap of the turbo and injectors and a tune worth it for a decent upgrade or should i just go completely aftermarket and screw the sti stuff for my subie. Wich would be the best bang for my buck?

 

The vf39 is a great turbo for the wrx if you're looking for quick spool-up. You can find used ones relatively cheap. I don't personally know anyone that has one in a wrx, but I hear that, for the money they are worth it. Look on nabisco - there's always 39's for sale.

 

Also they're pretty cheap and plentiful. It seems like most of them have a crack in the wastegate but it doesn't really make a difference. I think the average price is around $300-$400 roughly.

 

Yo I Just Finished Throwin A Vf39 In My 02 Wrx And The Sti Intercooler!!..runs Like A Fuckin Beast And I Dont Even Have My Car Tuned Yet!..if I Were U I Would Deff Go With That Setup!..very Worth It!!!

I had that setup on my WRX and was very happy, if you have it tuned right it is an awesome setup for DD.

 

you can make 300whp fairly easily on a vf39. I suggest a 39 or 34. The bigger the turbo you go, the more stress you are going to be putting on your tranny.

If you do a 39 I would port the wastegate at least a little bit to minimize creep.

 

Out of curiosity; you don't have a tune and your running a VF-39? What kind of supporting mods are you running?

im running a vf43 which is the 07 sti turbo.similar to the vf39 just w an upgraded wastegate, and let me tell u its a lil bad bitch! big diference from the td04 and like LD says with a turbo like this u wont be putting too much stress on the tranny. u can do the install urself w the help of the right tools and maybe a few friends and obviously make sure u got all the right parts and supporting mods to go with.

 

i just put the turbo and intercooler from the 05 sti. i have the ecu tek ecu data monitor, aps cold air intake, im ordering a new clutch and exhaust this week, and im looking to get the fuel pump and injectors from an sti as well. i dont really kno much about cars so idk wat else i shuld be gettin for it!..my brother totaled his sti and i swapped the stuff b4 the insurance company came and got the car!..juss tried to get ne ugrades i culd for free!..any suggestions as to wat i shuld do or wat i need to do?
