I've read that you need some goofy tool to take the the top nut of the assembly off.

Obviously thats not the tool lol.

Thats the only thing that has me wondering if i can tackle this.
That nut is the worst part, smooth sailing after that. Impact wrenches are a plus too, also PB blaster (as always) and a breaker bar helps. Mark your camber bolts and get an alignment afterwords.

H&R springs are basically the best handling option, IMO.

I had the Prodrives long ago and liked them. Good choice.

I've never used any goofy tool setup (nor have I ever seen anyone). Put the impact gun on the top nut, pull the trigger. The top nut comes right off.

I can't really imagine trying to do the job without air tools. I'm sure it's possible, but I'll pass.

Good luck.

Yeah i'll def be using my impact gun for this.

In the back of my mind i'm considering not using spring compressors because i'm reading mixed instructions online about them.

Should i use them?

I have done it with and without them, my guess for safety would be to use one, its free anyway.

Yeah i've seen alot of honda write-ups do the swap without them.

But of course they ARE Honda owners .

I'll probably just rent a set from autozone or somewhere.

you can take them apart no issues with out them, it is getting them back together that the issues comes up if you need them or not....

if you are able to put enough Ummpfh on top of them, then they should be able to compress enough for you to get the assembly back together... but they are free @ auto zone, beter to have em and not need em...

for the top nut, I always use rubber covers on a pair of vice grips on the shaft...the rubber keeps it from scaring and makes for a less akward tool arrangement

I've done many many many subie suspensions and have never used a spring compressor...the spring is basically at free load with the strut completely extended.

I was hoping you'd come back in here and say something about that.

Thanks everyone!

you may want to have a spare friend lean on the top hats as you run the bolt off though...as it does have a little and I mean little tension left on the stock springs and I wouldn't want you to damage the top thread (as minor as that would be).
also makes it easier for reassembly and handing you a beer
