I have both, but it depends on what you're looking for. We mainly use our PS3 as a Blu-ray player because there aren't that many good games out. The Xbox has many more good games out there. And the online gaming is much better than PS3.
So PS3 for movies...
Xbox for games...
Opie- If you have the Xbox Elite it does 1080p...

If your not a complete idiot about where you place your xbox you won't get it.
Most people got the rrod because of the intercooler add-on many gamer stores were selling.It robbed power from the system thus making it work harder with less power which overloaded it and bam RROD.
I've had my box for almost 9 months now with NO issues.It all matters where you place it.If its enclosed on all sides,your going to get the rings because everything heats up.Microsoft decided to use a different type of solder on the connections and its very brittle.
I'll probably end up getting a ps3 in the future.

Xbox 360 is FTW, online is sick, alot of games to choose from, controllers are better
but PS3 graphics pull on 360 by a car length or so
BTW my gamertag is in my sig hit me up for H3, Cod4, or Skate.

We've had two 360's die in two years. Best Buy replacement plans FTW. 
Our PS3 is still running strong.
The 360's were so unreliable that Microsoft extended the MFG warranty to 3 years! Their failure rate is over 30% where PS3 has a measly <1%.
And being in retail i do see many more 360's returned than PS3's.

xbox is not fully backward compatible there are a much of games from the old box that doesnt play. Ive had my system for over a year and no problems.

but i have NEVER had a problem with my 2 year old 360, froze once or twice playing rainbow six, besides that nothing. oh it ate Gears the first day but that was my fault for letting my cat knock it over.
if it did. best buy plan is FTW! hahahaha even tho mines up ina few months.
whenever i play for a handful of hours and my xbox starts to get hot i just take like a 30 min break. idk if that is why i have never had a problem or not.
