blew second...
I hear the PPG are a struggle to shift around town. I dont really like fourth gear on the wrx, falls on its face. Which Im sure want matter after the vf-22 is installed, but oh well.
I would like to get the car up and running asap, so I really dont want to wait on the rebuild.
I found one for 2500 on nasioc, which I think is a decent year, with 20k on it.
I can always do a 1-3-5 shift.

It looks this will be the way ill go. I didnt know I needed a auto shaft, that helps. Can I use an STi shaft or will I need a different rear?

you will destroy your transmission if you drive it with 2nd gone.
first question, how long did it last?
second, what year car is it?

well, doing a 6-spd isn't bad if motorsports (excluding road course and a peaky torque curve) isn't your thing
(I'm and owner and hater of the 6-spd)...there are a ton of different ways of doing it too, which is why you won't find a solid answer on it.
you have choice of rear diffs (3.9 or 4.44 pending the tranny and then r160 or r180), clutch/flywheels (5mt or 6mt but have to use accompanying flywheel with clutch), driveshaft (auto or 6mt shaft and then can change flanges on the diff too to make diff work w/shaft), CV options vary pending which rear diff you choose and if you do /rear brakes or not. (that opens a whole other bag of options up too)
The fronts are easy...just two stubs (I have the part numbers) from the factory that your current cv's will carry over with.

I was refering to the six speed, as in a skip shift (to make up for the short gears around town) The car was towed home.
78k miles,
02'.

id honestly get RA gears and cryo them. if your box lasted almost 80k miles on the 02 gears, the RA gears (which are the same width as 05+, but also better gear ratios) will hold up even longer. Cryoing them should also definitely help with heat capacity and transfer. No need to spend $5k+++ on a PPG box when your stock glass box lasted 80k.

lol, the stock box lasted ME 80k. My brother drove it maybe 15 times, and is being held as the culprit...since he is getting the car, I would like for it to be strong. When all is said and done, it should be putting down around 350whp. So i want it to be durable and easy to shift, and can also take a bad shift every now and then...

well then it seems to be you want a PPG box. Get ready to shell out $5k-$6k.
