well, subaru has fixed the tranny issue so long as you are willing to buy the car with the 6-spd...they need to make that tranny standard on the turbo cars IMHO...or revise the 5-spd to be stronger (as it could be more cost effective). the 6-spd is rather complex, has more parts (an internal oil pump for starters) and is harder to manufacturer = more expense when buying the car

Yea, they should put the 2007 STI tranny in all of them.

Not so much of the ass kicking against cars recently released, or being released.

1998 Subaru Impreza WRX 22B STi, 12.90 s, 104.9 mph

12.9 @ 105, thats not very fast. In 1998 that was pretty quick, up there with alot of other cars. Today?.. barely in the 12's @ 105 isnt very fast at all.

Still one of the hottest looking Subaru's ever .. but what was fast in 1998, isnt fast today. I expect the 09 STi will barely break into the 12's. If you are to believe the "leaked" stuff from that "Best Car" magazine, its 1450 kg (vs 1460 for the 07) and 300 hp vs 280 hp .. keep in mind thats for the 2.0L japanese STi, but I cant see SOA bringing anything hugely more than that.

even with 350 HP, at 3200 lbs (and thats without the driver so add another 200) your barely into the 12's, with driver and 350 HP it'd be a low 13.0 second car @ about 105 i think. Hardly the Subaru that won car of the decade.

If you think...modern camaros and mustangs are good cars go for it! buy one. stop bitching about your 30K+ car and trade it in for something else. why do u have it if it such a disappointment. go get a bmw m3. great car. corvettes...go get one and be like every other hp hungry guy out there, upgrade it like hell spend thousands of dollars and you will be all over the road not being able to control the huge hp RWD. shit go get an evo next best thing to an sti....IMO they are almost equal but EVOs are very easy to make stupid fast.

stock for stock subaru may not be as fast as some cars but those other cars are a lot more money. new cars at least.

do what you want BUT i think 99% of subaru owners are very happy with what they have gotten for the money.

In stock form not so much........

I purchased it for the modding potential & have been very happy with it

But if the new STI were around 40k then the value/performance is out of the question. Getting one for 34-35k then dropping 5k into it to make it a legit low 12sec car still makes it a bargain for under 40k.
With that being sd......
If the price is in the mid 30's I woundn't be suprised to see one in my driveway next year

And this from a guy who had a Mach 1 and didn't learn it was the wrong choice. Go figure!

If you want to Drag race, street race etc. then go get the right tool for it. The STI is way more than just that.

I think part of what is missing is that you guys only got the WRX/Sti in late 2001, you never knew the ass kicking that was handed out on the roads and race tracks weekly by the STi.. the articles written putting it up against the Porsche 911's and M3's of its time and it wiping the floor with them .. not just edging them out.. but obliterating them..

Those cars are much faster now than they were 10 years ago, the STi is not... its heavier... alot heavier.. but it hasnt had a significant raise in power.

This is the kind of feeling(s) it used to evoke...

The Subaru Impreza WRX has been named 'Car of the Decade' by the influential and authoritative British automotive magazine, CAR.
The highly- respected magazine gave the Impreza WRX the nod over a host of contenders that included the McLaren F1, Ford KA, Audi TT, Porsche 911 993 and the Ferrari 360 Modena.
"Electricity, penicillin, the Subaru Impreza turbo. God only knows what life must have been like before the advent of such marvels," CAR said.
You wont see the current WRX or STi win that title, or even garner such praise because Subaru never moved the platform on..its still in essence the same car that won the title in 1999, while other manufacturers have progressed.

I remember times when some of the fastest times around certain tracks in Sydney, were WRXs or STi's ... when nothing short of a pretty heavily modified V8 would touch a WRX/Sti from a stop light... and not even come close on a race track.

I got alot of the same useless unimaginative replies "ZOMG, LIKE GO BUY A <INSERT Corvette,Camaro,Mustang,BMW etc etc here>, THEY SUCK AROUND A RACE TRACK!!" replies that I expected.. replies that might have been true 5, 7, 10 years ago ..

as for the Stage 2, 12.3 @ 111, nice time, but thats what it should run stock... if Subaru had kept up with the times.

speaking of keeping up with the times.. they've lost the edge in Rally too. Mid to late 90's... they dominated.. these days ?.. not so great.. i think that speaks volumes about the fact that they stifled their innovation, the other manufacturers had something to chase, now its all pretty even .. they ned to step it up again ..

And lastly, I do enjoy my STi, I worked hard for many years to get it.. but I think I worked hard to get something that doesnt exist anymore .. I worked hard to get the STi i drooled over in the late 90's ...

I'm an old school subaru fan .. i think i'll wait till my Sti is payed off.. then transplant its heart into the car I dreamed of for so long .. a nice Steel Blue 2 Door STi Type R.

I want to get the new BMW turboed 1 series, forget the new sti Zate brings up some valid points though....plain and simple.....the STi is no longer a class dominator and takes a lot of money and work to actually be fast.
