So yesterday at the autocross my friend's said my tranny was whinning real bad. But I don't know if the sound is normal or not. The car makes the sound under hard acceleration and when downshifting(it sound like a Honda going in reverse). But as far as I know, it's always been making the sound because it's a normal sound to me while driving. Do you think it's something wrong with the tranny or something else? I know nothing at the autocross did anything because it was a complete 2nd gear course and I never launched it.

 

id have to hear it. if something is whining, its probably not your gears, but one of the differentials.

 

i think its okay! when downshifting mine would whine too....

 

what does your friend drive? he might not be used to hearing an awd car's gears.

 

They drive an 06 Evo and 04 Cobra.

 

After about a year of autocross in my new 06, it started making different whines too. Just remember your car is under a lot of stress, you're pushing it pretty hard and it's gonna make crazy noises, especially under all that heat...the heat is the biggest enemy. I think my turbo actually started whining too...or it could have been the tranny...but it was definately in second gear that i heard the whine. I wouldn't worry about it...ask Alizarian...he beats the hell outta his 04 wrx (during autocross ) and he's still got the stock tranny. Next time, take extra water you can spray on the IC and tires...it def. helps....

 

Ok that makes me feel a little better. lol They both said my car sounded like it had a supercharger the whine was so loud. So I don't know if I should have it checked out or see where it goes from here.

 

If a Cobra guy is telling its whining like his superchager id have it looked it. Thats a pretty damn loud whine if hes being serious

 

That's what I was thinks...but now the question is where? Mastro, Reeve's or Lakeland? I have a couple mods also. CAI, TBE and Cobb AP. Would you recommend I take it back to stock first?

 

I get a whine with my tranny when I downshift and I have an sti..i thinks its part tranny and maybe part differential..i don't know, all i know is it whines, too.
