My whole thing was, does it make more sense to buy a 5spd and built it up, or buy a 6spd and do some minor work to it

so.... yeah. options?
i had a 02 wrx with ra sti gears 1-5 with some beefy tranny mounts and some other fun stuff to beef the tranny up.....and the car felt nice i also only had about 200whp so no clue how it would've been on 350whp......but now i have an 04' sti and i love my 6spd its so much more fun to drive....and feels way beefer imo than my 02' but its all in opinion do you like short gears if so 6spd....if not than 5spd but your going to pay for both in the long run.
good luck either way....and let us know how it goes.....

either way itll cost you about the same. so its all preference as to 6 vs 5 spd.

you could get the sti stuff cheaper then the PPG, but it would require some searching and alot of patience.

im debating the same thing, but im still far from having to make a decision. since I want to road race, ill probably do STI 6-spd; but if I didnt race, id stick with the ppg 5-spd.

You were correct in that the V7 EJ207 is the best way to go. Flashable ECU and the strongest forged internals. I am look for one of those now myself for another project car

I would go with an sti tranny if you can find one for a good price.

if you're seriously looking for one, let me know, i found two and the dude might give us a good deal on them if we buy them both... they are in Ukraine right now, with 3900 miles and 6000 miles, complete and sold as complete swap kit.... price is a little low and so something might be fishy, but i'm checking it out.

Irish Mikes in Orlando has an EJ207, fully built from their Speed Challenge race car. They wanted something like $3500 installed.

it might be gone by now, but would be worth checking.

okay, i'm starting to question my decision to go with the new JDM EJ257 motor from gruppe-s.com for 3,000 bucks, not including intake, exhaust, turbo or intercooler.
been talking to a guy i've known for a long time, and he has had a Legacy SS for sale, he was asking 1,500, now he's down to 1,000 for a running Legacy 2.2T....
i don't mean the engine runs, i mean the entire car is for sale for 1,000 bucks
"I'm asking $1k, it needs brakes up front which I may be replacing. I think it has a small boost leak. I don't drive it, but do clean it and start it up every once in awhile." -Him
I'm wondering if anyone knows of the issues i'm going to experience trying to get this 180hp 2.2T motor into my car. i know all EJ motors are interchangeable for the most part, but i mean I'm wanting a reliable 300WHP and have been hearing nightmares about being forced to run a frankenstein setup where i have the 2.2 block, 2.5 heads and cams, and have to run custom EM
I figure that 1000 bucks for the 2.2T motor is a good deal, 1000 bucks for the whole car is a steal, just want to get some advice from you guys...

having done several swaps and several builds I will start with a few questions.
What do you plan on doing with the car (track, auto-x, street)?

how much power do you plan to make? This effects what EM's you can run and if swapping is worth it in the first place.

There are easy and hard ways to do swaps, so what year/model subie do you have?

<--- 1999 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT is the car to have the swap performed on it.

I want to have a super reliable daily driver that is able to put down 300whp on pump gas. I want this thing to get to 400,000 miles, not 400whp. I want to know what i need to do to build it above and beyond what i will need it for, so that it doesn't break on me. I'm not looking to half-ass this, thats why I'm trying to get as much info as possible before i start spending the money on anything.

The car will get driven spiritedly on the street and i'll take it to the track to see what it runs, but I will not be trying to push the engine to its limits in any way other than longevity.

99 GT...no plug and play EM to my knowledge so fun with wiring. Unless the hydra pinouts on the 2.5RS and 2.5GT are the same. Might be worth giving Andrew a call about.
Also I would stick with a newer 02+ WRX, Forrester, Legacy GT or STi either usdm or JDM...Parts such as sensors and coil packs are readily available if you have a failure. Also reflashes can be done on these motors saving you a good amount of money in the tuning field
not to mention the motors will most likely have lower mileage too.
