Default Advice

Hey guys,

Im in the process of buying an 06/07 STi. I was taken back by the super high insurance premium that I was qouted by multiple insurance companies. Anyone care to share how much they pay monthly and with who?

Also how is reliability when STi's are modded? I know they are super reliable when left stock.

And one more question...when upgrading full turbo back exhuast, FMIC, or cold air intake is there any tuning that needs to be done?

Thanks for all the help.

I pay $200-220 a month with eSurance. Im 20 and have no wrecks or tickets though.

Reliability is awsome when modded, there is people with 100k miles running bigger turbo set-ups on the stock engine.

And yes a tune would be required to make everything run smoothly that you listed.

With basic mods and a quality tune, they are still quite reliable. Get into heavy mods or a questionable tune, and who knows.

Insurance is high...according to a new report, 4th most expensive car to insure. I dopn't car to share my rates as theyw ould not be representative of a normal rate. Not only that, but you need to share more info about yourself to have accurate comparisions. Important factors are accident/driving record, age, marital status, and anythings else you find important.

Even your credit report is taken into consideration, theft rate, cost of repairs, or 'accident prone' aside from all the other things. Here's a link to the report tkr mentioned, unfortunately we're crucified from the get go from insurance companies. I pay about the same as silverrexh4, slightly less at 23 no wrecks or tickets.

-06 wrx
-23 y/o
-1 at fault accident
-USAA
-Was paying $187, just dropped to $162/mo
And I just got a quote for an 06 STI and my payment would stay the same but if I got an 07 STI it would go up to $191.

what companies have you tried? I'm a Nationwide agent, but the rates for Natiowide SUCK!!! We do cary companies such as GMAC, Victoria, Progressive and Encompass... Typically the best way to go would be directly to the source(ONLINE) with whatever you decide.
I'm going to run a mock up quote for the Encompass Co. and I'll post it in a little bit...
...I'm just bored at work right now, might as well.

well...after going thru Encompass...they suck too! an STI would be basically $330 per month.

I have Geico and carry Insurance on both my 3000gt and Civic and they are the cheapest for me.
