they are going to throw liability issues at you, such as the fact that they can't guarantee that it wasn't something you did during the installation that caused the short that fried your speakers.

WTF happened anyway? i can't think of anything they COULD do to make it fry the speakers aside from screwing up the leads to the speaker wires, (e.g., they wired two positives up to a single speaker, or two negatives to a single speaker)

what did YOU do? did you just plug in the cd player to the wiring harness? i'm not saying its something you did, i'm just trying to figure out how this happened so i can help you stick it to the man and get some new speakers.

KKR 05KS62
check these out, they carry them at circuit city, and are decent speakers, i've heard them in my buddies rex and was planning to get them in my legacy before i got the boston accoustics

good luck man!
I didnt do the installation. The speakers that where in my car have been working since day one. So, i had nothing to do with the speakers. And as for the head unit, i was going to give it a shot but then i saw all these foriegn wires and decided that i would let the "pros" handle it. So all i had them do is hardwire it for me, so when i got home i could just plug in my JVC HU into the harness they wired up. So thats what i did then all hell broke loose.

i don't understand. you didn't have them use a wiring harness. you had them cut the universal plug off and hard-wired the jvc plug. then when you got home it went 4th of july style on you.

if thats right, then they did exactly as i said, when connecting the wires, the kid doing it fucked up and connected two positives to a single speaker, instead of a positive and negative lead, and this caused the speakers to blow and short out.

you're going to need new wiring in addition to new speakers just so you know.... that wire is shorted out and most likely the insulation is burned through. even if not, its a chance you don't want to take, especially if you're running an amplified stereo... fires aren't fun going 90 over the skyway

good luck man, make them pay for it, install it AND give you a warranty, 3 year is standard and should be easy for the manager to give for free, just need to ask

My car never had a harness, but that would have made my life alot easier.

Update: I called them and they tried to tell me they hooked up a JVC cd player and it worked fine for them. So the battle begins.

your car did have a harness at some point unless you bought it used and the guy before you cut it off. the plug that coupled all the wires from your car and allowed it to plug into your OEM cd player is the harness i'm talking about.

there's no way, from what you're saying, that there is anything you could have done to have caused that to happen.

don't bother talking with the manager anymore, unless you've got him by the short and curlies, he is going to try to stonewall you. go to corporate and get them to contact him. get him by the short and curlies and then yank like you're a 13 year old who just found his dad's stash of porns

..................thats just the speakers. you're forgetting that you just fried ALL of your stereo wiring. its pretty extensive, 500 bucks would be you getting lowballed and completely screwed

i would offer to help, but i think your best bet is to have circuit city do it all themself so that IF anything happens, you're able to have someone to point the fingers at that can fix it

... Never ever ever get anything installed by BB or CC.... either do it yourself, someone who really knows (like people in audio forum) or a reputable audio shop T&J Elites (in oldsmar.)

Seriously, the first time i ever got something installed on my car was a new headunit from circuitcity. Got it all installed and it was the most ghetto ass connections i had ever seen, my power antenna was hooked up completely wrong and it would move up and down all the time and my speakers sounded like shit. After about 3 months i finally went crazy and did it all myself. From that moment on i did pretty much all the stereo work in my car myself.

I also found relatives and friends who had similar problems, even a friend's girlfriend had her whole dash in her accord melt as well!

Good luck with the claim.

Alright just got off the phone with the circuit city by me and the coperate hq 3-way phone call. So they guy sits there and tells the coperate guy that i paid to have my harness put in and not my CD player installed. And he says "well how do you know the speakers are blown?" im like "well they smell like melted plastic..." and he says "come down here so i can hook up are JVC h/u we have here to show you that it was working." I guess im going to go there sometime today. So they are basicly saying that im fucked because i have my own h/u that has been working in my car since day 1.

But he did do a pretty good job in making things up to say to cover his ass.
