openecu anyone?
openecu anyone?
Im planning on tuning my car using openecu software.ive heard its pretty good plus im looking to get some basic tunning on my car till i get some more extreme mods done.ive heard about openecu from a friend of mine who is pretty good tunning hondas and mitsubishis using online tunning software so i might have him tune my car too.i just wanna know if anyone has used it before or heard about someone using it before.so far my mods are 3.5" catless turboback, catless uppipe, greddy bov, intake box mod, turboxs mbc set for 15-16psi and a apexi safc2 not tunned though.
i'm following along with OpenECU, but giving it a little more time to get a bit more exposure before i commit. Would love to see your results and hear about your experience with it.

What year is your WRX? From what I've heard, these cars dont like MBC's. Im running open ECU with an enginuity tune from The Snowmann. I love it car runs strong.

well i have an 04 and just put my mbc in last sunday,so far no problems,it pulls hard though and it starts boosting pretty fast too.but i guess ill just use it till i get some tunning done and set the boost on the ecu instead.
yes ive noticed that i can reach full boost at part throttle and even on first gear too. so u think i should put the stock one back one? would an ebc work?
Yes as far as boost control goes I would stay stock and rely on tuning to safely increase boost. The boost controller would work fine if you were tuned for but you really dont need it with your mods.

The 02-03 models will run pretty well with an MBC, since there's no delay from closed->open loop fueling. Starting in 04, there was a change with the ECU (only on the WRX, though) that had a very slight delay going to open loop. This would cause massive detonation as the boost would go up and the AFR would stay around stoich. Many a broken ring-land from that.
If you tune out the delay, then running an MBC is ok as long as you can compensate for PTFB (partial throttle, full boost) situations with your fueling curves.

thanx,im glad i havent been running it for that long.even though the first day i was punching it pretty hard.i guess imma take it off for right now till i can get some tunning done. so how about OPENECU?
