Help..new to subaru.. thx
Ok guys i got my liscense a few months ago and learned how to drive and now my prarents said im ready to get a brand new car... they said i had $25,000 to spend. So the onlycar i could think of for the price was a wrx...... But i dont want to get the wrx and then feel bad because the sti is so badd ass.... So whats the difference between the wrx and the sti? can i make the Wrx a sti? Isnt it the same engine?
no the wrx is not the same as the STi.....you can make it as fast with enough money but as far as the engin the wrx has a 2.0 turbo w/ a 5 speed tranny and a STi has a beter tuned suspention 2.5 turbo w/ a 6 speed tranny and a DCCD (aka a center differital controller). the wrx is a good car but with $25,000 you can find a slightly used STi and have a beter platform from the begining to work off of.
Id never buy a used sti...Pple beat the PISS ouf of those car..If u pay 30k plus for performanxce of course ur gonna use it... But the 06 wrx has a 2.5 like the sti.......so is it the same engine now...some one told me an sti was a wrx with a bigger turbo
The Wrx is far from being a weak car straight from the factory. I would have killed to have that for a first car. Or second or third or fourth...
I would recommend against getting a used Sti because:
A) The same reason the previous poster mentioned
B) You are probably not ready for it. Not being an a** just being realistic.
I'm a decent driver with more experience than you've been alive
and it took me probably 3 weeks or so before I was really confident enough to push the Sti to the (car's) limits. Do not read that as me being some sacless wuss because that's far from the truth. I've had many people swear in my car when I've taken them for a ride.
Start out small(er). The Wrx is a great first car and one that is probably more forgiving on many fronts than the Sti.
To address your questions on the differences between the Wrx and the Sti:
It's like the diff' between a Mustang Gt and a Cobra. Yes they are the same car but night and day difference. Wrx and Sti even more so.
The Sti has upgraded brakes, suspension, wheels & tires, transmission!, engine (2.5l 300hp vs 2.0l 227-235hp), turbo, interior, etc, etc.. I couldn't believe the difference handling and performance wise between the two after I drove the Sti.
If you've only had your license for a few months awd is going to blow your mind.
G/l in your search.

Here's where I step in and be the killjoy. Just keep your head on your shoulders. I get to read alot of stuff about 16 or 17 year olds killing themselves or passengers because they were being an asshole in their new WRX.
That said, the 06 WRX's won't disappoint. Hell, for your first new car, a 2.0L WRX will be fun. Turbo back, Uppipe, and reflash will net you about 235 wheel if you go with an Accessport. Might not seem like alot, but its still pretty fast.

Get a Mazda3 and save the rest of the money for either college or as the downpayment for your next car when you get this one messed up. It's your first car, and while you may not total it, it will get dinged up a little either by others or yourself.
A WRX is an expensive car to maintain (premium gas, high insurance), and its a strong car to begin on. Whether or not you are 16 or 21, learning to drive in a WRX may be a bad idea. Accidentally launch the car in traffic, and that turbo will thrust you into that other car's bumper quicker than you can think to lift your foot to apply the brake.

I think you would be much more happy with a slightly used STi than a brand new WRX. Both cars are a lot to handle for a first car, so be careful either way. Autocrosssing will teach you tons about how to handle your car at its limits. Best of luck.
