Transmission problem part 2 with Pics
Subaru dealer said that i went from third gear to first and its not under warranty and it will cost around 1500-2100 to fix it.Nice RIght
I talk to corporate they said before they took it part that its driver did it or a outside force will not be covered.
I only rev up to 1 to 1.5 then slowly let up on the clutch so I can get in to traffic and thats it. Was not racing or anything I was still braking the clutch in.I don't know what to do about warranty??????
!!!I am seeing the RA gears are good!! THAT will not brake
STi RA ratios: 3.083 (1st), 2.062 (2nd), 1.545 (3rd), 1.151 (4th), 0.825 (5th)
Factory Ver.6 STi RA 5-speed close ratio gearset with special cryogenic stress relieving treatment. Improved strength and durability over stock WRX and RS components. Excellent for mildly tuned street and group N competition vehicles with power outputs well over 300 wheel horse power. Gearset includes main shaft, 1st-5th gears, and all necessary parts for proper installation including locknuts, gaskets, and seals. This gearbox is good for boxes in decent condition. If other parts have been destroyed during a catastrophic failure they must be special

i dont know if im buying this story. you completely destroyed first gear. maybe not from the clutch they put in but before. your slipping clutch was probably just buying that gear a little time. new clutch finished it off. my guess is you'll be buying a new set of gears.
ra's arent bad but they arent a whole lot stronger. in fact i have a ra tranny with 4.44 sitting here with a busted 2nd. good for i'd say the 300whp range on the wrx.
also were they serious when they said you went from 3rd to 1st? that would be very odd.

I did not go from 3 to 1. I would have never done that.
I did not know Subaru trannys are this bad. I drove alot of different cars(hondas, acura fords, supra had over 600hp to the wheels) and never had a problem like this. I also have a mustang that i drag racing that has over 500hp and never had a problem. That i rev up to 5k and then drop the clutch.
thanks for your help guys

yeah i didnt think you went from 3rd to 1st. thats why i think it's odd they would even say that. you'd have to be intentionally trying to destroy 1st.
ra's should hold up pretty good for you. if you dont do the 5k clutch drops and hamfist the shifter. you can also add strength to them by having them shot-peened. as of right now thats what i intend to do with them and they should hold up perfectly.
the newer trannys have gotten alot better, but still they are not intended for the style of abuse most people put on them. you can make them last for a long time if you drive it right. they arent designed for drag racing. i have 292whp at 12k on my 05 tranny, and it still works perfectly(knock on wood).

Looks to me like a clutch drop. But I'm no expert and don't know how you drive your car. Cryo-treated RA gears are nice though.
When you do a clutch drop (or a very very hard launch) on a WRX (non STi), the aluminum tranny case will flex a bit. This can cause the shafts to bend very slightly and gears to slightly move apart, and if the forces are strong enough, shear teeth. Something like that, anyways.
The pictures look like teeth just sheared right off. Look at the one gear with its missing teeth, and compare it to the smaller one that looks like they all came off. They may not mech together, but if so, it looks 1-to-1 on missing teeth.

Of all the broken gears I have seen, it is usually one or two teeth that are missing. Yours looks like there was a piece of broken metal inside the gearbox and was driven extensively. I have never seen a gearbox out of a Subaru with that extensive damage. How many miles on this gearset? Did the gearset go out immediately or gradually? Just trying to understand how the teeth got that fucked up
Its the stock gearset that has around 30k on them. They went out immediately. The weird thing about the car is mostly stock like exhuast done, cold air intake and a boost controller. Thats mostly it.
