Default Anyone ever bent their shift forks?

I was wondering how big of a problem this is with Subarus. I have heard that this is an issue with earlier WRX's but never heard if Subaru ever addressed the problem. I don't think the STis have this problem though.

Let me know if this is a legitimate problem or just isolated cases.

Thanks guys,
Craig

oh....no,no....don't misunderstand....I am just saying that this is a problem with earlier WRXs. But I do know that the same fork that moves fifth also opperates reverse on a 5spd.

On the WRX trannys, there is nothing to stop the travel of the shifter except the gears, so concievably, if one were to really slam the shifter, the first thing to give would be the shift fork.

This is such a big issue with Mustangs that there are aftermarket shifters with adjustable stoppers for the shift lever (PRO 5.0)

I was just wondering if this was common with Subys also...Won't know about the 05' untill we remove the trans and crack the case open but, that is what it sounds like to me....hope so, cheaper to fix than shreaded gears.

If ANYONE has insight on this, please let me know.

Thanks

Thanks for the links Evan. Just what I was thinking....I am considering fabricating a new plate/ boot for the top of the tranny tunnel with stopper bolts. That way you could set it and jamb the hell out of it without over-throwing a gear....mabe two different ones...WRX and STi.(5and6spd)

i would assume that the only time this would be a factor is when you are planning on dragging your car. or you are a very spirited driver. but if this is a issue you are being WAy to hard on your tranny. the WRX 5 speed is glass. this along with the even more GLASS rear diff.

the stiffer shifter bushings will help a lot. along with the rear crossmember bushing. these will make your shift throws a lot more smooth. and if you want the super lube action. get a tranny pitch mount, engine mounts, along with all of the bushings and it will be so smooth that you'll blow your load in a hurry
