I'm thinking of buying a wrx
I'm thinkin of buying a 02 wrx and was wondering if you guys can help me out. I dont know anything about wrx but know there cheaper than evo's. Can you guys tell me what kind of brand names companies that are good and reliable. For example like engine moding, what brand names can I trust not to rob me and acually do somthing to the car. I've seen some names that I have never even hard of. Also I have search, if you find somthng can you just give me the link.
Thanks,
KnightDrifter
P.S. Are there any good shops around here, I'll do most of the work myself but it would be nice to have a shop guide me through a problem.

There are plenty of reputable companies out there. Probably too many to list. The best place I can point you towards to learn about the car and modding it would be the FAQ on NASIOC here. I know from experience that it will be more than enough info to get you started on mods and just knowing the car. Good luck and hopefully youll be a member of the family soon!
the first mods I would recommend is uppipe, downpipe, and some sort of engine management (Utec,Ecutek,or Cobb Accessport) There are so many great companies just do some research on nasioc.com and just search a lot. Pm me if you got any questions on anything.
One of the most important thing to remember is do not dump the clutch! One thing is going to break - traction or the drivetrain. With AWD, traction will rarely break.

There are a host of mods that should come first before anything serious. First are free mods like clearing your headlights, removing the intake snorkus, debadging, etc. A grounding mod is cheap and effective, along with steering rack and shifter bushings. Also some solid rear swaybar mounts. Then you get to gutting your uppipe or an aftermarket uppipe, downpipe and catback, etc. An AccessPORT is fairly cheap and can offer considerable gains, along with ease of access (plugs into factory diagnostics port, hence the name AccessPORT). Then suspension, including springs/shocks, anti-swar bars, strut bars, etc etc. Other things like short shifter, larger scoops, the options are endless.
One thing you might be interested in is a blow-off valve. Although BOVs give a sound that some people like and some people hate, they do not offer any gains for anything under 20psi. With no catalytic converters and a BOV, be prepared to shoot flames. The stock computer reads the air that the stock bypass valve recirculates into the intake. With a vented BOV that air does not enter the engine, but the ECU thinks it does and therefore supplies the adequate fuel for that air. Problem is with an aftermarket vented BOV that air is vented to the atmosphere so the engine has all that extra fuel, which doesn't get burned and sometimes enters the exhaust and causes a kaboom massive flame
Wow, I feel like I should be a teacher lolol.........................
