Subarus are not SUV's are they?
Amidst my yesterday errands i had to pick up some car stuff from discount auto parts and 2 different sales ppl asked me what kind of car i drove. After i told them a subaru impreza they both said, "one of those SUV things". Ok, 2 ppl who work at discount is acceptable b/c they more than likely not the brightest. But later in the day 3 more ppl said the exact same fucking thing. "oh, one of those suv things'. So now i ask, when did subaru start making SUV's? I assume in the exact technical term of SUV maaaaybe subaru could come up, but i would first of think more along the lines of 'one of those turbo sports cars' before 'one of those suv things'. any thoughts?
They might not be so off...
Subaru Outback customers have been recently transformed technically, into SUV drivers. The 2005 models of the Outback sedan and wagon have been reclassified as light trucks which is a category of vehicle that is subject to weaker fuel economy and tailpipe pollution standards.
In the 2005 model year, light trucks will have to average 21.2 miles a gallon. By contrast, each automaker's full fleet of passenger cars must average 27.5 miles a gallon.
The move which is basicly a loophole in the fuel economy federal regulations which will let Subaru sell more vehicles with turbochargers, which pep up performance but hurt mileage and increase pollution.

yah, however do you think these ppl are down with the 2005 vehicle category classifications of fuel economy and tail pipe emissions? Whatever happened to the 'oh shit, it's the badass car from gran turismo'? lol
i see what you're saying, but to go from being referenced from Gran turismo, to 'that rally car', to 'that SUV thing' is a pretty lame evolution.

I work up at discount/advanced auto parts. Your comment is fine, but it depends on who you talked to. From what I know age of the employess kinda matters. Some people there dont now a whole lot about imports. Half the time when I tell them about my subaru legacy, its all new info to them. But the employees are still very car knowledgable. Stop by my store at Hanley and Waters, Ill help you out.
i would think they were referring to an outback if they said SUV things... All the commercials i used to see on tv pre-2002 were for like the outback only. Fuck em. I'd rather them continue to not know what my car is, so that i still get the "sweet ride, what the hell is it" for as long as possible. haha

yeh i loved the responses i got when i said i drove a WRX, when i first got it in 2002. most of my car friends didnt even know what it was. But most know what it is, and now everytime i say a WRX they're like, 'oo you mean an STi?' and then i have to frown and say 'no, just a wrx'
