Don't know much about Cougars myself, but the Engine/Tranny were same setup as the Neon. Looking at the front you have the DOHC engine with Cam gears to the left (or Passenger side) and tranny to the right (or Driver side).
wow 6 hours damn that's a long time when ever I had my clutch replaced on my old car it took at most 2 hours and it was 250
