Are the rocker arms "riding" on the centers of the valve stems? If not you definitly have a pushrod mis match.
If you cant tell just by looking. try poping a few off (maybe all 4 corners of the engine)and use some white out on the valve stems to see where they are at. Put it back together and crank it, then see what it looks like. Should be across the center 1/3rd of the stem.

I did this initially on a couple on the pass. side but it was prior to shimming them. So I'm sure it has changed. I heard you're supposed to do that with a lifter converted to solid as well, or else your results will be inaccurate since the lifter will depressed as it is not being pumped full of oil, which is what the solid simulates?
Either way, before I shimmed it, those two cylinders were showing the the pushrod was a little long...which is what you want on pedestal as you can then compensate with the shims (since the effectively raise the rocker up some) to get correct pre-load.
