Ok how much shorter are the GTIR Valve spring first off?
1/4 in? 1/8 in?
Cuz as you posted those shims are for BLUE PRINTING your valve train Not filling a gap between the Spring and retainer
Minus all your useless crap.
No the FSM wouldnt mention it because with a stock build, and hydraulic lifters, stock lift, etc, making everything perfect isnt exactly necessary.
Installed height is listed as 38mm for the RNN14, 40mm for other sr20det, this will also change with a valve job, or different valves, and yes to properly be setup, you would need to measure this for each valve and shim accordingly.
So the difference in INSTALLED height, is 2mm, or .078"
The actual spring length is likely the same, i'll have them soon to actually get a measurement.
Comp, crower, etc sell shims in .015, .030 and .060 to be used in combination. So just a single .060 would put me within .48mm of the stock installed height, at that point an .015 would put a little bit more pressure on the seat, or just leave as is for a hair less on the seat, either way, not likely to reach coil bind with stock 10.0MM lift cams.
Another option is different spring seats, which I may end up going with, we'll see.
