They have changed the formulations for
ALL oils recently - even Mobil 1. In an effort to comply to stricter EPA enforcement and to reduce the build up in catalytic converters (which make them less efficient = more pollution).
Well - the downside is that they have less additives that reduce wear.
Less significant if you have the family truckster - much more significant if you have a performance car - especially one with flat as opposed to roller tappet engines.
With the average Porsche Flat Six rebuild costing more than most complete cars, I tend to keep up on what's lubricating my engine as I'm spinning 7000 rpms.

BTW - if you are running castrol GTX and you are doing any stoplight or track [hard driving] replace it before you reach 3000 miles - castrol in more than a few tests was one of the fastest oils to break down under load.
